Re: MPG comparison...How's yours?

I would say mines about 2 gals to a mile. Tired ol 350, though it still runs ok ...don't smoke or used oil I know it drinks tha gas.

On a serious note though, the gas gauge is broke in my ride, so I'm only guessing. I just stop at stations and try to keep it on the full side. thank god for jiffy cans.

Re: MPG comparison...How's yours?

I'll let you know once I get it sorted out but it will be a bone stock 6.0L truck engine with carb for now. My Powerglide because it still works just fine with a Boss Hog Convertor and 4.10 gears. To keep the revs down I'm going with a 32" tall tire on either 18" or 20" rear rims. I will be dropping it 3/4 and I have relocated the batteries and fuel tanks to the rear for better weight transfer.

Re: MPG comparison...How's yours?

The year after next the 200R4 will go in and a switch to 3.54 gears and then some shorter tires if I decide I want to drop it more than 4".

Smogger 350 / QJet / TH350 / 3.73 in a '66 short wide. Getting 11.5 mpg. That is with no tuning, there is more to get for sure. I'll be hooking up a wide band data logger when I get it off of my other ride...

Re: MPG comparison...How's yours?

worn out 350 needing valve guide Badly (vortec heads) 200R4 and 3.73 posi 255/60/15 tires. gets 14 mpg all day on freeway doing 65 mph.1964 short fleet BBW. Was getting 8 mgg with leaky Quadrajet and TH350 tranny, then 9 .5 mpg with small Edelbroack carb and TH350, now using small Edelbrock carb and 200R4 tranny...

1965 Chevrolet C-10 with a 283 bored to .060"-over, an RV cam, Edlebrock Performer Intake, Holley 4360 4-bbl Carb, Headers, SM420 Transmission, 3.08 Rear End, 29" tires.

Assuming little wind resistance -

In-town: 15-17 quite regularly. Got 17.4 this last time. By in-town, I mean freeway and city street driving, sitting idling at the drive-thru and intersections, etc.
Highway (60-65 mph with very few stops): 17-21, depending on if I'm hauling something, driving hard and fast, or fighting headwinds.

Re: MPG comparison...How's yours?

Neat. How's the performance with the 4BT and those tall gears + the SM465? I'd like to try a diesel if I come up with one I can afford at some point...

Not very good. I lug badly into each gear. I changed the rears gears to get the thing above 50 mph. Wish I would have left them though, I picked up a NV4500 last week. It paired with some 3.73s will be perfect.

By the way, I couldn't afford a 4bt either. Ive got an oddball under the hood.

Re: MPG comparison...How's yours?

24 combined average with a 4bt ranger sm420 and 4.10 gears running 285-75-16 at 60-65.
I have gotten as good as 30mpg from Grand Junction to Denver before but that is not an average.

Re: MPG comparison...How's yours?

I have 283 edelbrock 500cfm (primaries leaned out as far as it will go), powerglide with 3:73 rear 235 75 15 tires getting 18 to 22 hwy but only 12 to 13 city. I do have 800 to 1000lbs of tools in the bed everyday and I can tell the weight is direct relation to mpg. When its empty it really moves out..

Yeah, I figured that little diesel might want to balk at those gears with that wide-ratio trans. That NV4500 should be nice. Seems like a fairly interesting little engine, BTW.

Neat. I really like the idea of those little auxiliary OD transmissions for the split gears; does that combo do pretty well?
