Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Nice project from me as well, i like the idea of stacking the cab into the bed too. Oh, i couldn't help but notice the crochet extension cords, somebody taught me that one back about 1980 but it looks like you took the middle ones to another level.

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Thanks...its my wifes YJ. That was her first vehicle when she turned 16. That will be another project in the future. It has a 4 cyl in it now but later plans for a V8 swap that she doesn't know about yet. lol

Here is another picture of the frame painted.
[IMG][/IMG] This is what I used. I would recommend this to anyone. Very durable. [IMG][/IMG]

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Time to start tearing into the rear end...
[IMG][/IMG] Took it to Danny at PM Machine Shop in Carlinville, IL to weld up the axle tubes to the housing. Did a very good job. [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] [IMG][/IMG] Wire brushed it and soaked it in brake cleaner to help get gunk off of it. I'm going to put it back together and finish cleaning it further. Then I will be painting it with the same product as I did the frame. [IMG][/IMG]

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Thanks to CaptainFab...Here are the brakes that I will be putting on the rear end. 94'-96' Impala SS brakes. Great kit! Comes with all the hardware and even a parts list to help you get the parts you need.

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
I painted the back of the caliper bracket and the flange just so there was some protection between the 2 when I bolt them together. I also painted the inside of the trailing arm saddles.

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Today I finished striping all the internals on the 12 bolt and cleaned it completely out to get ready for the new parts coming tomorrow!!! Had to get out my trusty hammer to help get the job done...
With the pinion, bearings and races removed. You can see how much cleaning I had to do on the inside. I soaked a rag with brake cleaner and taped it to the end of a broom handle. Some spots were a little tougher than others but it turned out nice.

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Next, now all that gunk was in the housing so had to scrub away on that too. Removed the main caps and wiped everything down with a rag and soaked it all with Autozone brake cleaner. It works wonders.

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Finally got up in the attic of my garage and got some presents down for the C10...21 Gallon rear mount gas tank from LMC and POL tubular motor mounts.
I had some intertubes laying around and used them as a rubber cushion between the tank flange and the frame. Worked out pretty well.

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
I got the gas tank installed today. Looks pretty good. Not happy with how low the tank sits but hey, I'm gonna need a good size tank when that BBC starts up...
Also got my POL tubular engine mount put on too

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
My favorite people in the brown uniform showed up today with some presents!!!
I got everything except the Moser axle bearing and seal kit and Timken differential bearings. Unfortunately, the Timkens are on back order and will be here in 2 weeks. The Moser axle bearings for some reason came in a package of Moser axle studs!?!? Had the correct part number and label, it was just not the bearings. lol. Called Summit and their taking care of me and sending them free of charge! Great customer service!

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Quick question. I was planning on ordering the heavy duty trailing arms from earlyclassic.com but I just happen to run across these. What do you guys think of the price? Anyone have any run ins with this company? I'm probably still going to get the HD ones, just wanted to put it out there for others to see.
Stock replacements - $377.90 for both. http://www.restorationperformance.co...r-control-arm/ Early Classic HD - $499 for both. http://www.earlyclassic.com/fullImag...ion=912-6372TA

Re: 71 C10 SWB Project Built
Update: Today I dropped off the 12 bolt rear end and all the goodies to Seth @ Country Side Repair in Hillsboro, IL. He is going to be building it for me. With a new baby at home, I haven't had the time. But...the build is moving forward!
