Today I found some time to start cleaning some of the steering and chassis parts. It's amazing how solid the the tie rods and ball joints feel.. so far.

Gearbox.. are these filled with grease or oil?

80 grit Diablo flap wheel.. poof no rust!

A chisel and wire wheel.. no crud!

looks better all ready..

Yesterday I got the passenger side floor ground down and POR15 rust prepped.
(I am trying to hold the rust monster at bay)
Primed, etched, and sealed. That is when I noticed there was something missing.
This truck came with only a drivers seat!

The drivers side floor is different than the passenger side.....

Noticed you mentioned it came with Suburban door/window also? I'd do whatever it takes to keep those barn doors myself! I sure do get tired of having to reach across the tailgate on my Burb to get things out, and that rear window assembly weighs a ton to lift each time! I'd much rather have barn doors on mine, and I'm considering doing the work to swap a pair in for my Burb!

Man, that sounds exactly how I would have put it, if I owned a tailgate Suburban! (I don't but I want a panel/burb pretty badly).

I'm getting ready to do the gas strut swap on my rear window, just because I'm tired of lifting the heavy sucker! Barn doors are impossible to find here. Had a WTB ad on CL for months and no response close by.

Ha HA, No way would I get rid of the barn doors! When I was a kid I had a customer on my paper route the had a '80 something Suburban that had barn doors and I remember thinking those where the coolest thing.

The PO hooked me up with a set of rust free doors.. off of a Suburban..

I have been searching High and Low for information on the Panel trucks. I would love to find an owners manual for this one.
It seems that the 67-70 Panels are not so common as the Suburban.
I would love to get my hands on a FSM for a panel, but for now all I have been able to find is the Brochure and a suburban repair manual on eBay.

Man time just fly's by. I haven't done a whole lot to the Panel besides gathering/ cleaning parts.
I just got the control arms sand blasted and I VHT coated them in roll bar satin By far the best finish ever) and last night I finished up the steering knuckles.

Today I picked up a set of front rotors and pads.

I have ball joints on order from Amazon, it's amazing how cheap their prices are for MOOG! I found out that the control arm shafts were worn so I will have to wait until I get some more cheddar in my pocket before I order them.

I have a question tho... while cleaning up the frame I found the VIN gear box side of the frame. But on the passenger side I found numbers stamped into the side of the frame forward of the engine cradle. Does anyone know what those are for?

I will be posting pics as soon as I can

I takes some time if you do things right. Now is the time to take care of that stuff. I have found if you get in a hurry and over look problems like that you just have to tear it back apart and re-do it when you start driving it.....

I think those numbers are just frame identification numbers for the assembly line. A way to make sure they have the correct frame for the type of truck they were building.
