Re: Does this look crooked to you???
Use a tape measure. Center the trans between the frame rails. get it measured up correctly then snug it all in.

Re: Does this look crooked to you???
Ok so I don't know what's up with this thing. I centered the trans rear output which involved having to slot the trans mount holes. I measured the front of the engine from crank to inside frame rail and it's out 1" towards the passenger side...

As already mentioned, powertrains are offset to the passenger side to clear the steering gear and brake booster and to provide a bit more foot room for the driver. K

Re: Does this look crooked to you???
I had put a BBC in mine & I remember thinking the same thing. I also had my cab off & on so I double checked that measurement.
I put mine all together & it looked "right when it was all done. |

Re: Does this look crooked to you???
No big deal as mentioned being off to the pass side for clearance, long as it is sitting square for the driveshaft to run straight.

Re: Does this look crooked to you???
The motor in my 55' was crooked, only because the PO had to have room for the headers. Motor is straight and headers are at the dump now!

Re: Does this look crooked to you???
Wow, that really looks way off. How did they get bolts in the mounts?

Re: Does this look crooked to you???
I just went out measured the engine location of my '68 C-10 with a cyl and a '70 C-20 with a 307 and they are both offset a little over a 1/2". Both of these trucks are original, unmolested trucks with factory mounts.

Re: Does this look crooked to you???
Thank you very much. Thats all the info I needed I started installing the front clip this weekend.
Edit: Could I bother you to measure the trans output from inside frame rail to inside rail? I have centered mine but I had to slot the holes on my crossmember to do so... I am starting to think maybe I shouldnt have done that. Much appreciated. |

Re: Does this look crooked to you???
I have a family engagement this morning, but I'll check it out for you later today.
At the end of the day, this discussion of the location of the engine/transmission is really not near as important as it seems, and it definitely nothing being off less than a inch. If it were that important, the suspension could never work. The driveshaft is constantly moving up and down when you're going down the road, and side to side alignment doesn't matter either. The old M37 Dodge Power Wagon military trucks had the rear diff offset to the same side as the front diff for off road use and the driveshaft ran totally totally angled from the transmission. U joints run fine in any position as long as they are not angled beyond their limits (too much lift, causing binding).
