Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
First goal is to get her running again. I have ordered a new fuel tank, sending unit, and fuel pump. I don't feel like trying to clean varnish and crap out of the fuel system. Cleaning the carb was like playing in black pine sap. I will spray and blow out the metal lines. I also have new plugs, a cap, rotor and coil coming.

Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
I have my old tank still. I don't know what it looks like now on the inside since it's been sitting under the house for 15 years, but it was working fine when I removed it. You would have been welcome to have it if you needed it.

Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
Thanks for the offer! I didn't mind splurging on a new tank. I think the old gals earned a new one. I figure if the truck has 143k miles and got 12mpg, then that's 11,900 gallons of fuel that's been through the system! You working right now? We are on days, I may stop in upstairs this morning a say hi if so.

Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
Well in the last two weeks, I changed the rear wheel cylinders, hard lines, brake hose, shoes, hardware and master cylinder. I replaced the front calipers, pads, hoses and repaired a hardline.
I replaced the fuel tank, sending unit, and hoses with all new. I had to get a cap for a 68, because the 72 one wouldn't fit (new EEC tank from RockAuto). The old tank had already sent about 2 tablespoons of rust to the fuel filter with only 10-20 minutes of running. I also installed a new fuel filler grommet. New filter after 20 minutes on old tank..... I removed the carpet while the seat was out along with the seatbelts and gave them a brief cleaning. I por15'd the bare floor to slow the rust. The bottom groove of the floor was rotted away down the drivers side gasket channel and the wires were visible and exposed to the rear of the cab. I put some convoluted tubing/wire loom around those wires and it sat perfectly down in the portions of channel that were still there and protected the wires a little better. I am currently going to rock the half torn highlander seat cover as is for a while. I am currently chasing a high idle problem on the qjet. When I rebuilt the carb, I lost one of the 43B needles and put a set in out of a random qjet, so that may be causing the high idle. When I force the throttle lever toward closed, the idle drops. I have replacement 43B needles on the way. I am also going to make sure the choke is working right. I installed a Grant wood steering wheel. I removed the hideous camper cover.

Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
Did a quick and dirty needle repaint, lens cleaning and replaced bulbs with LED's.
On a different note, it really sucks when you start your truck up at 4:45AM to go to work and your Grant steering wheel horn cover blows off, instantly grounding your horn plate out for all the neighbors enjoyment......

Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
Had the horn pop off on my truck 3 different times in the middle of the night before i gave up on it being right, even with a new horn kit.. My neighbors weren't too happy ether.

Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
Guess what happened at 330am this morning? I got to do the tighty-whitey sprint outside from a nice dead sleep. I've read some threads on fixing the problem by removing the spring and using foam pads behind the fiber plate. We'll see.

Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
Nice score man, look forward to seeing you get it going good (without having to do the 0330 tighty-whitey sprint). Really digging the seat covers, that's the one thing that my truck lacks, is a proper colored seat. I'm running an oxblood red bench from a 90 GMC in my blue truck.
One big heads up, when it comes time, order your carpet from RockAuto. They carry ACC carpets, and the top of the line carpet kit for my truck was around 140. From ACC it was arouund 350. Can't beat the deal, and the part numbers were the same! Oh yeah, GO GAMECOCKS!

Re: Bought my grandpa's 72 C10
Looks like I will be installing those wheel bearings and seals I bought over a month ago. I put it off when I did the brakes a couple of weeks ago. I'm pretty sure I've been hearing some bearing noise when coasting, but this confirms it. Grease is heating up and oozing out of the bearing cap and getting slung onto the wheel.
