Re: [PROJECT] "Hot Rod" 1931 model a Bonneville/ Rolling bones style
So I got the top all welded and ready to start metal finishing. I ended up cutting the header to line up A pillars. Also cut the passenger side door and got it half way welded.
Any ways here's the pictures Justin

Re: [PROJECT] "Hot Rod" 1931 model a Bonneville/ Rolling bones style
Worked on the coupe this weekend and got the front A pillars welded and gaps corrected, also metal finished the rear section by the back window. Had to shrink the metal down with a torch and remove the "oil canning".
Also finished up the gussets for the rear hairpins and got them tacked in place. tomorrow I plan on welding up the screw in A pillar pieces and cutting the header panel down on the ends then the chop will be done! Anyways here's some pictures Gussets A pillars and gaps Metal finished back section I happy with the way it turned out, the area by the rear window was the hardest. Ive never used a torch to shrink metal and remove "oil canning" so that was stress full.. Let me know what you think? Justin

Re: [PROJECT] "Hot Rod" 1931 model a Bonneville/ Rolling bones style
Looks like it turned out really nice from here, metal finishing is a skill id love to hone in on one day. I was thinking about picking up a shrinking disk as ive heard its a little less risky than using a torch, but seeing how well your back window turned out maybe ill give the torch a chance. If you have any tips to share im all ears, my 28 could use some finessing

Re: [PROJECT] "Hot Rod" 1931 model a Bonneville/ Rolling bones style
thanks man, just make sure you use a small tip like a 00 or 000. keep the heated area about a dime size and just watch the metal you will see it move. I had better results when I heated a dime size area and them hammer and dollied it a couple times to shrink it, than cooled it with air. Then just repeat around area the needs to be shrunk. Hope that makes sense.
Justin

Re: [PROJECT] "Hot Rod" 1931 model a Bonneville/ Rolling bones style
Also I wouldn't waste your time on those shrinking hammers they make, I tried it on the one side (that's were all the little dots came from) it didn't do anything but make little impressions. Maybe an a tiny area it might work but I wont be using it again.
