Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

CPP 3"/4" drop got installed yesterday. 7 hours and some choice words! 3 hours was trying to remove 45 year old rusted suspension bolts. PB blaster didn't help much. Thank goodness my friend let me us his lift. Also put on the new dimmer switch and I now have working headlights.

I like the stance so much I am thinking of keeping the 15" wheels, adding some white walls and a set of stainless moon hubcaps! What do you guys think of that idea?

I ran out of light last night and it is raining today, I will post some pics of the new stance soon! It looks soooo much better!!!

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Here are some new pics after I installed the CPP 3"/4" drop. I love the new stance, no more 4x4 wheel well gaps!!! Rides sooo much better. The old suspension was worn completely out. Getting the new windshield installed on Friday and maybe even a new exhaust system if I have time. I guess I am going with a new set of white wall tires and some stainless moonhub caps for now to keep my cost down. I really want a set of 20" steelies but dont want to spend that type of money right now. Give me some suggestions guys....

Looks darn good! I say hop up that 6 banger! GN turbo makes 5 pounds of boost...that 250 is plenty capable of it. Head work, cam, forged pistons, and turbo...250+ hp over stock.

Funny! No, not going to mess with the 6 banger on this one, keeping this project low cost. I have too many toys and if I decide to sell it in the future, I would at least like to get my money back out of it.....

When I drive it around, people cant believe how clean it is and that is the original bed to the truck. The bed is what makes it so unique!!

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

It has a vise bracket on the rear bumper. I have a guy that says it has as old one so I can mount it back there. That will look pretty cool too. Going to buy some paint and freshen up that rear bumper as well.

Just bought a Magnaflow single in/dual out muffler, so it looks like the truck is getting duals put on real soon!!

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Had a busy last few days. Took all the firewall connectors apart and cleaned every connection. I had a bunch of 4 gauge Monster cable from my stereo install days so I ran all new 4 gauge positive and negative cables, 4 gauge to alternator, 4 gauge grounding loop (battery to engine to frame to radiator support); basically I did the "Big 3". I do that to every vehicle I buy, seems like it makes a difference more to the older vehicles due to old wiring and small gauge. Also installed a new 63 amp alternator and new set of plugs. I scored an old school vise/anvil that bolted up perfectly to the bracket on the rear bumper.....that really makes it look like a real service truck now!

Had the custom bent Magnaflow dual exhaust (single in/dual out) installed on Friday. The old exhaust was on its last leg. New windshield and gasket installed as well. My new Hankook 235/75R15 white wall tires came in, so hopefully will get them installed tomorrow along with the stainless moon hubcaps that should arrive by Fedex tomorrow as well.

Only thing left is a new set of plug wires, repair the parking brake cable, and I'm going to replace the old voltage regulator just because. Other than that, it will be ready by this weekend at the latest and I'm just going to drive it and not spend anymore money on this project...for now!!! I will post final pics after the new tires and hubcaps are installed.

I wanna hear a video of it running with that magnaflow exhaust.

Anyhow, Congrats on the speedy progress. Drive the wheels off it.

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

The Magnaflow exhaust is not loud. A nice little rumble is about it, but sounds good. Actually, I wish it was louder. It had a glass pack on it and it sounds about the same. I went with a 14" muffler hopefully that would make it louder but it did not. Guy at the muffler shop told me to go straight pipe if I wanted it louder. I'm good, at least the wife will not complain....

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

New voltage regulator installed (no GEN light now!!!), new plug wires installed (runs a lot smoother), new Hankook 235/75R15 white wall tires installed; amazing the ride difference between the new set and the old dry rotted set... All the front vibration is gone and the ride is remarkable for a lowered truck. Installed the stainless moon hubcaps as well. I really like the new look. It rained yesterday so I will have to get some updated pics up in the next day or two. A few small things to do this weekend and I will be finished for now.....

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

I cut another 1/2 coil off the front springs for an extra 1" drop. No change in ride quality and the front sits so much better. I detailed out the engine too, it's amazing what a little cleaning and some fresh engine paint will do to an old engine bay. Pics coming soon!

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Alright I finally got around to taking a picture of the final height after the CPP 3/4 drop and I cut another 1/2 coil off the front. So overall the drop ended up giving me a 4/5 drop compared to where it started when I got it. Now it is tucking just a little tire just the way I wanted it and it rides great!!!

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Next up is the pin striping on the doors!!! Still trying to figure out what old school garage lettering to have done. I think my "Shop Truck" is getting close to being finished and ready for cruise season in a few months.

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Not much new to report. Installed stainless steel vent visors today. Installed a polished stainless steel overflow tank last weekend. Too cold to do anything else. I'm ready to go cruisin. Spring time needs to hurry up and get here!!!

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Clean work truck, this is the second truck with a utility bed on this site I have come across, Wally the 68 service truck was the first. Mine is a 1982 incomplete cab chassis that was owned by the City Phoenix and purchased from Southern Truck Equipment and is the only bed the truck has ever had. After seeing these two trucks and owning the Elephant for 20 years I may just keep it...

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Up next is some more engine detailing. I just received my new chrome valve cover and side plates. Also my clear front turn signals finally came in too. Probably spray a little more satin black under the hood and install all my chrome goodies this weekend if it stays above freezing temps. I did score a set of nice sail panels off Ebay yesterday, that should add a little more "bling" to the outside of the truck as well. Its coming along rather smoothly in such a short time.

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Crazy day on Saturday....here is the story:

Well, it was nice weather so I was finally able to take it out on its true maiden voyage. Ran good going down the interstate, everything was going good until......I ran out of gas!!! Fixed everything on the old truck but the gas gauge...my bad!!! LOL. Got a ride to get some gas and was up and running again no problem.

Drove for another 80 miles or so and met up some friends for a short cruise and then we went to the first cruise-in of the year. I was there for maybe 10 minutes and a guy comes up and offers to my truck, well I am sad to say the offer was accepted. Only had the truck for 6 months and put about 300 miles on it. The couple seemed happy, I was a little sad. Oh well...to the next project (I still have my 72 Suburban that keeps me busy too)!!!! Later guys.....
