New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Just purchased this 1966 C10 Service Truck a few days ago. The bed is what makes it so different! Got it all cleaned and buffed out and it fired right up with a fresh battery and a little starting fluid. Ran out of motivation yesterday (dang you NFL Sundays!!). Going to clean the carb, new plugs, points, change all the fluids, etc in the next week or so. May be hard to tell in the pics, but the before and after is a huge difference. Paint buffed out pretty good! Next up is a CPP 3"/4" drop and a set of 20" wheels with grey centers. Still trying to figure out the right wheel for this "work truck". 6 lug wheels are slim pickings it seems. Open to wheel suggestions if you have them.

After:

It has a little rust in the normal locations, but overall it is in real good shape.

Looks great the way it is. How about just painting the wheels that's on it to match?

I think the steel rally 4x4 wheels with caps and rings would look perfect. They are easy to find, and not expensive.

Jacksonville craigslist? You beat me to it. I sent him an email and was ready to make the trip down and it was already gone in less than 24 hours. Is it as solid as it looks? Congrats, can't wait to see this build!

Am I seeing things or is that a short bed? I like the fact that you want to keep the service body. You used to see many of those but not so much anymore.

No not Jacksonville. Bought it from an old timer the next county over. Evidently he has been trying to sale it for a year or so!

The one I emailed about was a 64..not a 66. That's crazy... it was almost identical to yours!

I like steel wheels and hubcaps for something like this..especially if you are going to lower it.

Here is a pic of the partial buffed service bed name plate. I believe I can get it to shine up a little more.

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

Busy day yesterday. Rebuilt the carb, replaced all the fuel lines and filter under the hood, replaced all the heater and radiator hoses, replaced some vacuum lines, installed new aluminium Champion radiator. Fired right up and idles great! Replaced the headlight switch but still no headlights even though everything else works; hopefully a new dimmer switch and some new grounds will solve that.

I ordered the CPP 3"/4" spring kit with: shocks, rear relocation brackets, adjustable pan-hard bar, and front shock reinforcement brackets; they should be here this week. It will be another busy weekend coming up. The truck sits to high for my taste, this should solve that problem. Its getting there!

250 I6, 3 on the column. Should have said that at the top. It seems to be a nice little motor. I still need to change all the fluids before its maiden voyage. I'm anal like that!!!

Re: New Project- 1966 C-10 Service Truck

These old service trucks are cool. I have always wanted to do one in a 3/4 or 1 ton and use it as a tow vehicle for my first '65.

The blue that is on this one is nearly if not a match to the blue mine use to be back when it was done in the early 90's
