Re: Bad Grandpa

Looks like Grandpa will be getting a heart transplant sooner than later. Got a rod bearing tapping. Looks like the 400 will go craigslist and I will be ordering a GM 350 crate motor.

Looks like Grandpa will be needing a heart transplant sooner than later. Developed a rod tap over the last week. 400 is going back on craigslist and I will be ordering a GM 350 crate motor with some "accessories" from summit racing. Stay tuned.

Well, two new rod bearings and a high volume oil pump will keep Grandpa alive a little longer. Knock is gone but he is definitly living on borrowed time.

Re: Bad Grandpa

Can someone tell me the name of the Engineer that thought it was a good idea to put this panel here so dirt and crud can collect and form rust??!!! I thought this was just surface rust till I started picking at it. Anyone see a problem removing this inside panel and leaving it off to avoid future rust?

Re: Bad Grandpa

Will be following this one! Also, I don't see a problem with it. It actually seems like a good idea to me.

Re: Bad Grandpa

Decided i needed to have the front seat re-covered. I also want to put in carpet. But I cannot put in carpet until I fix the the windshield leak. So last week I ordered a new windshield gasket and lock trim from Steele Rubber products from right here in NC, it was delivered in three days.
In anticipation of finding rust under the windshield I Also ordered a POR-15 kit. And because the truck sounds like I'm riding in a tin barn I ordered some Fatmat and in anticipation of future mods speaker wire.

I also ordered some cool suction cups with handles to help remove the windshield. SO here goes.

Pull the lock-strip out of the gasket and cut the outer layer of rubber away. Install my new suction cup handles.

Pull the windshield out absolutely no problems. I did find this unfortunatly;

Left bottom corner.

Right bottom corner;

Left Corner;

Right corner;

Rust turns out to be mostly surface so an hour or so of grinding rust is gone and treated with POR-15. Sorry no pics.

Now for the Fatmat sound Deadner;

Black for the back of the cab;

I have added one more piece that covers the corner exposed here, Just did not get a pic;

Carpet;

Bad pic

So i'm at a standstill waiting for the POR-15 to dry. So decide to clean / polish the windshield with some 0000 steel wool. I walk out to my carport and find this;

Not happy. I call safelite and their installed winshield comes with the gasket ($241) The guy I talk to on the phone isn't sure if they can or will install it with my gasket and i'm not sure I can send the gasket I have back. I'm hoping Monday I can locate a new windsheild, Did I mention this is my daily driver? Hopefully I will have some good weather cause this will be my daily until I get a windshield;

The end that broke was sitting in the sun, as soon as I touched it....

Nope. First time. Have not drove it yet but just closing the doors I get more of a "thud" instead of a hollow "bang". And I have not put mat in the doors yet.

Sorry I do not have a pic but I did find a diagram online. Does anyone know where I can buy these mounting pins for the cowl cover?

Re: Bad Grandpa

Purchased the mat off of Amazon. Drove it today. Huge difference in noise. Actually have a conversation at highway speeds. Now onto the air leaks around the doors and windows.....

I just used a right angle die grinder with 80 grit flap discs. Rustoleum primer and 3M 08881
undercoating.

Thanks.How is truck coming along?? Did you have any issues with the fatmat not wanting to stick to the 3m rubberlike undercoating??? Im about to install mine and got to thinking of adhesive capabilities on a rubberlike substance.

No problems whatsoever sticking to the 3m undercoating. It was pretty hard by the time I put the mat in. Huge difference in sound. The mat did smell for a day or so, but the smell went away
pretty quick.
