Bad Grandpa

I purchased this 81 with the intention of just "tinkering" with it. Well you all know the disease....... I still have to use this as a daily driver. I do have a Harley Road King, so there will be more progress on this truck in the summer months.

Purchased this truck is Sept of this year. One owner 131K miles all original including vacuum hoses.

Interior.

Original radio, and it works!!

Bed original paint,

Planned Upgrades

I will keep the interior as stock as possible. Only addition here will be the Tach/Fuelgauge update from GMsports; http://gmsports.com/content/new-tach...and-gmc-trucks

Replace the dash pad and have the seat re - covered.

5/7 drop. I just scouted out a 400 shortblock today. Sport bumper in the rear and change the grill to a two headlight 85 version with a tube style grill.

Also looking for a one piece limo tinted back glass.

Seen a couple of rust spot in the floorbards that caused some concern so I pulled the rubber floormat and jut pad out. Found some scary stuff.

Moisture likes to hide under those rubber mats, looked like you caught it in time.

Re: Bad Grandpa

I have a leak from under the dash I need to figure out. Weird thing is it doesn't always leak. I need to pull the cowl cover off and see what I can figure out. It doesn't always leak, but then it does I see a trickle on both sides in the same area.

Thanks. My Son's truck is actually pretty sad interior wise. The plastic dash in in terrible shape. He starts his truck driving career this summer and plans to buy a newer vehicle for a daily driver. When that happens we will start modding his truck. I also have a 66 Chevy II "Lifetime" project. Hope to start putting minitubs in soon. I have a project page on Steve's Nova sight here; http://www.stevesnovasite.com/forums...d.php?t=183315

Are you going to restore your sons interior back to the factory look? What are his plans for modding it?

It has the 4.3 V6. For the motor he is undecided. He wants to lower it and add bigger wheels. He wants to keep the original style dash, but have more of a race look with the door panels and seats. Still up in the air on plans but this is what we have talked about.

We love the look of this;

In just south of Raleigh.
I'm probably 2 hours east of you.

Painted and ready for seat

Painted with 3M 08883 under coating. Went on pretty thick and dried hard. Going to just put the seat in WO mat or carpet for now. Save up some money and install sound mat and a new carpet kit in a month or so.

Is there anything besides Photobucket to use to load pics? Photobucket is being a PIA!!

Re: Bad Grandpa

Nice truck and some great progress. After living in Greenville for (5) years while going to East Carolina, I miss it all the time. I missed it even more when I went back for the ECU/UNC game last September
