Re: 1967 SWB 4Wd original owner

I think it's awesome just how it is. It's a prime example of just the personal touches an owner needed/wanted for function and looks. The black wheels with silver accent is a very traditional truck guy "fix-up" from the era as well as years prior. I think I'd not be in a hurry to do anything. Just enjoy it and let your plans marinade. What's the hurry?

Re: 1967 SWB 4Wd original owner

Do you realize how rare this truck is?

Production numbers for shortbox 4x4's in 1967:

Stepside: 1,229
Fleetside: 1,046

http://outintheshop.com/prodnum.html

I see that your truck is a fleetside, and according to the SPID, is a true shortbed, however, according to the model number, the truck was originally a stepside, not a fleetside?

The model number for stepside is "04" and it's "34" for fleetside. Either GM screwed up or the bed has been swapped at some point.

Do the existing wheels take caps that affix with clips? What hubcaps would be correct on a 67 4wd (if any)?

my 67 longbed custom had a vin that showed it was supposed to be a stepper too but it did originally come with a fleet. i have a buddy that his short fleet showed it was supposed to be assembled with a stepper too but his was an original fleet as well

I wasn't aware they had smog pumps in 67. Any more info on this?

only vehicles destined for the great republic of california

My grandpa had to have smog on his 66 buick that was being shipped to CA, thank god it was only a closed PCV and not the AIR pump!

Back to stock is my vote! Paint the engine orange, put some skinny "meat grinder" tires on the stock rims (painted black of course), loose the tie downs and window guard and drive that puppy!!!

Re: 1967 SWB 4Wd original owner

Man,
Did you guys see all the documentation, this man sat down and ordered it to his exct speciafications right down to the wench. I was told by his wife that he was an avid hunter and a plumber by trade which explains the rack and tie downs. The wench is PTO driven which i havent seen on a small pick up before. Its got a cool growler horn under the hood and every thing works as it should. He had little notebooks with every and i mean, every oil change and tune up and what have you.
It makes me happy that you guys are enjoying this truck as much as i am. thanks for being as excited as i am on this find.

i'm thinking that Special K is a wise man. It's old school in every way.

Deadhead,
The wheels have 3 nubs so i'm guessing the caps snap on. i have no idea what the correct caps would look like though.

Your truck shows nothing on your spid as far as hubcaps, probably left the dealer with none.

Although white steelies with these cap would look real nice. Picture the hub poking through though.

Re: 1967 SWB 4Wd original owner

Congrats, that truck is nicer than nice. My first truck was a 67 short fleet 4x4, but here in the salt belt it was extremely rusted when I got it in 1984.

Any chance that you could post a pic of the PTO? I've never seen one on a Rockwell transfer case before.

Re: 1967 SWB 4Wd original owner

I have never seen hubcaps on a 67 4x4 in the original product literature. I think 69 was the first year for caps on a 4x4.
