Re: 4x4 Problems

Do you have the SPID (Service Parts Idenitification) tag in the glovebox or on the front LH inner fender?
The build sheets are usually in the seat springs if it hasn't been swapped. My 76 had a 1980 build sheet in the seat springs.

A 1977-80 K10 or K20 could have either an 8 1/2 inch 10bolt or Dana 44 in the front.
The 10 bolt will have an Oval cover. The Dana axle covers are an odd hexagon.

The 77 & 78 front axle identification codes are on page 26 of the 73-78 parts book
Identification numbers (bill of material) from DANA.

That rear axle looks like a GM Truck 12 bolt. Not surprising on a 77 K10.
The rear axle codes are in the 73-78 parts book pages 27-37. You'll find your ID stamped into the RH axle tube.

Re: 4x4 Problems

front looks like a dana44, I don't see the 10 bolts "ears". The transfer case looks like a NP205.

Re: 4x4 Problems

I am pretty sure they are both dana axles and is a np205 transfer case, it would make sense if they were. I couldn't find the build sheets is there any other of finding out that information. Maybe through Chevy some how?

Can't see enough of the Transfer case to tell. The round cover on a Cast Iron case looks close enough to the same on both the NP203 & NP205 transfer cases to not be a good tell. The giveaway would be that the NP203 has a range box between the transfer case and the transmission.

The front axle is a likely a Dana 44. See the Front Axle Ident guide in post #28. There are zero good pictures of it.

If it's not a 1967-1972 or earlier model (Dana 60) or a Dually (Dana 70) you don't have a Dana axle in the back... And the picture doesn't look Dana either.
On a 1/2 ton it's either a GM 10 bolt or a truck 12 bolt. It will not be a 10 bolt in 1977. As I stated earlier the rear axle is a 12 bolt truck axle.
If you don't believe me look here...http://coloradok5.com/axleguide.shtml
8 3/4" 12bolt gasket and cover

Re: 4x4 Problems

Poor shot of transfer case... Need to see it from behind not the side. From first glance I'd say NP203 but without seeing the middle who knows still.

No I do believe you i just though someone said it was a dana because of the limited slip in it. I also knew someone had modified the truck from stock.

Re: 4x4 Problems

Limited slip carriers are available for just about every axle put in these trucks.
The front Dana 44 could have Limited slip carrier installed by someone... I did on my 76 for a while.
