Re: Fixed surge issue - thanks to Geezer!!! Now HEI or keep points....
Skip White Performance on ebay is where I got mine. Complete HEI Distributor with wires was about $75, awful hard to beat that price.
Looking there now, an HEI distributor with Cap, Rotor, and Coil is right at $60 shipped. http://stores.ebay.com/whiteperforma...=p4634.c0.m322

Yup. The SKip White distributors a great buy. If they crap out, just replace whatever went bad with parts store stuff and move on. Great thing about HEI is they are inexpensive, they work REALLY well, and everybody has parts since they were on every GM built from 75-85 (minus some exceptions...ESC)before they started switching things up.

I will admit that I am somewhat of an amazon.com addict. I was short on time and needed something to get me by and had this delivered next day. A full summer later, about 2k miles. Its still runs like a champ. I believe this is the same thing skip white sells and probably pretty similar to MSD entry level off-shore sourced line.

Why is coil matching important? What if the internal resistance is different, what kind of problem could it cause? Quote:

The math: 600 RPM, divide by 2, since the distributor turns once for every 2 crankshaft revolutions, gives 300. Then multiply by 4 since 4 plugs will have been fired per crankshaft revolution. That's where the 1200 comes from. So, from 600 to 6000 RPM, the frequency will vary from 20 Hz to 200 Hz.
