Re: Shipping increases
Well stated Tim, it comes down to the fact that trying to obtain perhaps 40-50 year old usable parts does have a cost factor to it. Yes, new parts can be obtained and from many places that offer "free shipping" . BUT, and this can be a game changer for sure, NOTHING fits like original parts from the General. Any there is no such animal as free shipping. It does not exist. It may be listed on your invoice as free shipping but each and everyone who has ever purchased a part has all contributed to the free shipping coffers. It is costly to maintain these old trucks and even more so to restore to their original glory.

Re: Shipping increases
Individuals shipping items, such as us selling our parts, are the ones who pay for that free shipping. The big businesses selling online and shipping for free have sweetheart deals with the shippers. Or any commercial shipper with enough business. I looked into selling repro sheet metal years ago. I would have been paying for shipments to me on a flat rate pallet basis. All the boxes you could stack on a pallet for $65. You can stack quite a few doors on a pallet. I'm sure that rate has gone up, but I bet it's still well under $100. What would we pay to ship a door? Back then, I bought a pair of doors from CA and it cost me $75@ to ship them.

Re: Shipping increases
I could never understand the shipping cost thing , just yesterday I got a package from a private person , the box was 45 inches high x 20 across width x 13 inches deep depth, and weight was 18 lbs , there were 2 acoustic guitars in the box , this was delivered to my house from USPS and the package came from Sakaiminato Japan the shipping cost was about $70.00 .

Re: Shipping increases
Ive been watching the parts board and I see a couple of dash clusters being sold at price plus 20 dollar shipping. I shipped a dash cluster before the big USPS raise in shipping rates and it cost me 52 bucks to ship, and that wasn't across country. I have plenty more parts Ill never use and want to sell, I even have some gauge surrounds, but at around 50 bucks to ship there is no way Im going to bother.
I really feel like I have to be doing something wrong.

Re: Shipping increases
Ok Ill hit the post office again today. Ill go to a larger one though that has a bigger selection.
Here is a quote from a for sale post I was just reading. Member wanted a price quote before shipping of a fan with clutch attached ... Here is what he came up with. It is insane what shipping companies are charging these days $55.12 UPS and $65 USPS both ground shipping. Box is 21x8x20 weight is 9 pounds from 93250 Thanks __________________

Re: Shipping increases
If you are shipping from a UPS store the rates probably are that high. It is pretty simple to set up an account online with them to get better rates. I just got a quote from UPS for the same exact size box ( for a BB fan) and it was $26 from MD to NC. You have to check with multiple shippers anymore for the same item. I just sent out a box that was 32"x 23"x6" @10# USPS wanted $49 and I shipped it UPS ground for $27. I usually have best luck with USPS for Flat rate heavy stuff and anything 1st class shipable. Most other items end up with UPS.
I think you can order the flat rate boxes on line and have them shipped to your house to save a trip. I don't bother with it since I go every day anyway Richard
