Re: I am seeing videos about Chevy and Fords

TCM tuning makes a huge difference in how the late model automatics shift, both in speed and firmness as well as shift points. At wide open throttle, the tune in the 6l80 will cause my Camaro to jump sideways with the traction control on in the 1-2 shift and then will bark them in the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts. At light throttle is shifts just as smooth as the stock tune. It takes about 1/4 throttle to command any given down shift. A wide open throttle down shift in lower gears will spin the tires if you aren’t on top of pedal management. This is all on the stock ~400 hp ~410 tq 6.2. I tuned it myself and it is a blast to drive. You can clean the performance of them up substantially and you can make them shift just about any way you want with some time and trial and error.

These are the greatest generation. Of all the trucks I have had for my drywall business they by far took the most abuse and held up well.
I put a 2005 6.0 4l80 in my 84 almost 10 years ago. Not one problem yet.

Re: I am seeing videos about Chevy and Fords

As 57TaskForce said, after 2019 GM built the Allison badged transmissions, then Allison did the programming.

The 10 speed isn't the bad transmission, the 8L45 and 8L90's were the ones that had the bad torque converter issues. These do not seem to have a "fix". Last I heard Jasper Engines and Transmissions won't sell rebuilt transmissions because they can't sell a good unit.

I have the 6L90 in a 2016 GMC and this seems to be a fairly solid unit. It has sloppy a tune, and the torque converters have issues in some high mileage units. They also introduced the transmission thermostat in this generation and a lot of people claim this cooks the transmission and torque converter. Many people sell bypass kits for this.

I have the 10 speed in my 2023 Silverado 3500, 4x4 Dmax. The trans is super smooth, pulls great! I have pulled my 9000# skid steer on my 20' heavy duty tilt trailer behind it with no issues. Also pull a tandem axle enclosed 16' trailer. Don't even feel it back there!
Love the power, love the truck.

That's what I like to hear .. thx I had a 2006 Duramax with the 6 speed and liked it real well ,,I think my scare about this 2019 gmc gas rig is the amount of speeds it has .. more to go wrong I guess ,, but the more I find from people on here the more I have faith in the 10 speed ..with proper care that is .

I listened to the whole talk from NeXtgen and copied it so if I need transmission parts ,, I will talk to them about how to get the part put into my transmission and where to get it done ..thanks as it is a better solution it seems than putting another transmission the same as I have. in and have the same problem

I will add that it is sure hard to really believe "" any thing"" any more....

My previous truck was a 2007 3500 4x4 Duramax, I miss that truck. The LBZ engine is awesome, I never had a problem with the drivetrain while I had it. I think my new truck pulls a little stronger. Don't like the DEF, and I hear stories about DEF heaters going bad. Is your 2019 a heavy duty?
