Re: John's Project

I'm taking the engine out to my uncle's shop tomorrow. The truck is already there. My uncle has been helping me clear out some of the unneeded wiring. So we will try and get the motor and tranny in it, then it will prob sit for a bit until I can generate some more funds to finish it out, i.e. alum radiator, air cleaner, and all the other little stuff.

Re: John's Project

Yeah I'm not in any real hurry, well just to get Travis off my back.

Once I get the motor and tranny in it at least I can enjoy it as I'm working on it. That has been the hardest part of not having the funds to do it quickly. Just seeing it sitting there is tough. Hopefully after Christmas though I'll be able to get the engine and stuff all squared away. Then it's just on to the next thing on the list!

John, while you are there you might want to paint the firewall. I am a fan of black, because it matches everything. Just a thought before you set the engine in.

I painted my engine bay after I took the old engine out. So it's all painted and ready.

I hear ya there. Holly asked last night what all I still had to do to get the truck back running. After about the third or fourth big thing she kind of got that glazed look on her face.

I got the engine and tranny in yesterday. Didn't get any pics, no surprise there!

Did a little fabrication to the driver's side motor mount to make the headers that my uncle had work. So that's a little savings there. Now it's back to waiting on $$

Re: John's Project

Yeah I'm at a crossroads now. Trying to decide what accessory brackets and such I want to go with. I want to swap the A/C and alternator to make a cleaner look. Unfortunately all the setups to do that aren't cheap. Then just about all of them are aluminum, and then if you do that you might as well get a nice alternator, and A/C compressor, and power steering pump. It's starting to snowball, and I don't have the funds for it to snowball.

My uncle used a set of Alan Grove brackets on his to swap the two, but they swing the two outward more than I would like. Here is a pic off their website.

I really like the March Systems, but My cousin keeps trying to get me to do it, I just keep telling him I would need a bigger raise!

I may go back stock for now, but I would have to buy brackets to do that too. The ones that were on my truck were a cheap chrome plated setup.

Re: John's Project

Why not go with a stock serpentine set up?
Think they are fairly cheap at pull a part......

Re: John's Project

^^ i was thinking the same thing. get everything... all accesories, brackets and bolts. DONT FORGET THE BOLTS! they are torx head bolts if i remember right. quote from pick in pull was $150 for EVERYTHING. alt, p.s, a/c and all. just dont forget you will need the reverse flow water pump. and there are plenty to choose from. i think theres an awesome FAQ thread about this. something to look into and save a few bucks but still have a sweet setup.

Re: John's Project

also if you get the parts separately you will probably get them cheaper......and at our pull a part they couldn't care less about the hardware....we could have a little pull a part get together and pay for all the stuff separate. speaking of, i need to pick up the drivers side bracket myself......

Dennis, I think you meant that your WILL need the reverse rotation water pump, right?

Re: John's Project

Fix it up just like that engine, TPI and all. Be tough

The serp setup should work off of anything with a V8 or a 4.3 L. Shouldn't be too hard to find.

Re: John's Project

Yeah John, everything on the front of my engine came off the 4.3 that was in the truck when I got it? My engine is a gen1 from a 1976 pickup I used to have.

You see those 2 bottom bracket bolts on either side of the timing cover? Very Important.

look at that........... pics........

Re: John's Project

Does that mean you're offering to give the serpentine system to Johnathon?

So what's the deal with it anyway?

Re: John's Project

She's in very bad shape, ive been just driving and kinda neglected it for a while now since that asshat pulled out in front of me, something is shaking pretty good like a grinding sound and feel through the pedal... Changed intake gasket the other day and the drive gear on distributor is worn out badly. Man i need a transmission for the other truck bad

Re: John's Project

I think you have plenty of transmissions, you might want to focus you attention on a "good" transmission

guess you could sell the white one to fund the other 2......
