Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Making the bend to come off of the radiator support. Not pictured is when I increased the bottom flange angle to 90 degrees to catch the radiator on the engine side of things.

Thanks...it cleans up the front subtly. Pretty easy project, even if done all by hand.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

I went up into the loft of my garage and found this radiator shroud. I was planning on using it for an upcoming shortbox project, but even though it’s original, it’s not perfect, and Dolly doesn’t mind, LOL.

It was greasy, dirty, and bent. I did my best to remedy it, and I’m not too disappointed.

Brake cleaner works like magic after scrubbing the big stuff.

The heat, bracing and letting it cool on its own did the job in straightening the plastic...

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

More “Unobtainium” was used on the shroud. I’ll let it dry over night and we’ll see how it looks after work.

I couldn’t remember if I had a shroud...I scoured out in the snow looking in parts containers and inside of cabs...THEN I checked inside. I’m really happy I didn’t have to buy one or fab one up out of thin sheet metal.

Thanks

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Shroud secured...if you look closely, I made a different radiator cover. I’ll use the previous cover on a different truck.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

High hump cover is in place. I’m using the 1968 4 speed transmission. The shift knob is 1967 and it’s shift pattern that I so nicely cleaned up is incorrect. The reverse is actually on the other side...I’ll have to find a different shift knob, I guess.

Nice Progress.

Took me a minute to get used to the reverse being towards me and Down

I’m guessing 1967 reverse is to the left and 1968 was to the right...?

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

K30 Speedometer Cable: Using an automatic cable on a 4 speed transmission...

Another item off the list. The 2wd 4 speed cable was too short. The only speedometer cable I could find in the back yard was this one off of a 1972 K20 with auto transmission.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

The cup is the right size but the cable sticking out is a bit longer...so, I’ll cut a little off and taper the 4 edges slightly.

Re: Dumptruck Dolly

Connected the speedo end at the dash, attached the clip on the firewall and bolted down the other clip to the top of the frame. Hope it works.
