Nice wheels! I agree the closed cap looks better.

I'd go with the closed cap also. Your truck should be able to carry a extra screwdriver in the tool box without it bogging down. You have a great build going on there. I like those big boy wheels and tires.

I really like those wheels a lot! I almost put them on one of my projects before I sold it. This will really set your truck off. I like the closed cap, but like the no cap too.

Thanks DW! We like the wheels, especially for the 58...they've got the right balance of old and new style. We were able to use the short, closed caps on the rear too...so same all the way around!

Thanks JB, we're playing around with the finish on the bedsides, but using the old wood still. It's kinda my boy's project and he's been hit and miss on it...too many distractions!

Well, since you brought it up, we decided to jump back into the bedsides a bit. My son is sanding the old, weathered, finish off the bedsides before fogging them with a bit of black paint, partially sanding that down, staining them, and then we'll coat them with a few coats of urethane. Pics don't show the urethane yet..

While he was working on those, I cut off the old bed rack gussets and welded in some new ones...

I was thinking the same thing, that's one tool he's getting his money out of. Looks good and just think how many options you will have on where to place your tie downs.

Hey DW!, Thanks! Nope, no real wear yet...we got the 4340 set, should last a while longer...at least through this build...maybe!

It's one tool I have a hard time NOT using! We just don't look at a blank piece of steel the same anymore.

Thanks again AD! I've been welding since my early teens and work in the industry now...it's a process that I find both relaxing and rewarding.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Working some more on the bed...dropped a couple receiver mounts vertically through the back of the bed in the corners. These will be the anchors for a gin pole set-up.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project

Welded in another receiver mount at the front of the bed for a cradle winch set-up my boy found a deal on. Hope to have the gin poles made by the weekend.
