Yelmer, Thanks. I am going to pull the booster this week. Will check for a date code, and post pictures if I find anything. Thanks again Frank

Yes, there is a 66 cast in, and some faint”clocks” which probably indicate month/day. Need to find a source or someone who knows about the Bendix manufacturing process to confirm..

I have that exact same 618082 master cylinder on several low mile trucks. 8700 mile 65 K20 , 18,000 mile 66 GMC , my gold 66 K20 22,000 mile truck. Thats two Janesville and one Flint built trucks. I've found these same master cylinders NOS on 64-66 Bendix boosters. I believe that master of yours IS correct and original for your truck . Ive sent mine out to Lone Star Calipers to have stainless steal sleeves installed and restored.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

Yelmer , check your part number 3834112 , comes up as the rod assembly FOR the booster. The booster assembly is 3843823-assembly manual or 3848503 1966 parts book, for 1964-1966 and Bendix only.

More info on the 618082 master , this is the Bendix master cylinder, two companies were making master cylinders for GM at this time. The other was Delco / Moraine . Both are assembly line correct. Also look in the assembly manual , it shows the screw on top master cylinder. The date I believe is calendar days of the year out of 365 days ,yours 66th day of ? 1966 ? I have some with 146 and 277.

Thanks for the info. Based on other parts and condition of this truck. I think the m/c and booster are original. Reading your last post, the 66 cast into the m/c is the day(s) cast? Are we thinking a Feb or March cast part? What is your thinking on the Bendix manufacturing timeline. Does the casting numbers start at calendar year or did it start with model year? Thanks again Frank

Look up, or google, Julian Date Calendar , it puts the date as March 7th for 066 . Its calendar year . GM used this method on other parts also. As far as how it relates , its always before or close to before the build date of the truck. Do you by chance have the build sheet to this truck ? The master cylinder would be on that sheet also.

Good info. I do have the build sheet (attached). Block 65, Brakes has 364. Does that correlate to anything? Is that the place that you are referring to on the build sheet? The March cast date seems good and accounts for time to machine, assemble, and ship to Fremont.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

Well , generally thats the last three digits of the GM part number. I looked in several early books and still need to dig a little deeper. I have the number 360 in several other build sheets and those are Delco master cylinder trucks and found another with 364. I will keep searching. Just another tid bit , this same Bendix master cylinder was used on 1965 1966 Impalas and several other GM brands.

I pulled the Booster today. I am providing pics of the front and back. I have only found 2870 stamped into the booster adjacent to one of the M/C mounting studs. Should there be additional stampings? One thing I did notice was each shell has an "X" Scribed in at the the 12 o'clock or top. Leads me to believe that the booster was rebuilt sometime earlier. That is consistent with the history I know. The longtime previous 2nd owner was a mechanic and probably serviced the part himself vs just replacing. Also included pics of the booster mounted on the Kent Moore Tools the dealers would have used to service the booster in their service dept. These are shown in the shop manual.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

Still need help with this:

Can anyone tell me the individual widths for each of these boards?:

(I'm aware of the grooving/spacing)

This site does not list it:
http://www.gmcpauls.com/47-72_BedWood_Info.htm

Thanks! Kirk

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

is there a touch up paint or color code available for the grey blue on the 1960 dash ? I don't have the dark grey that I have seen, but it seems to be original paint, just a few scratches, and some cracking.

Ok bolt gurus! I was cleaning a batch of bolts off the 62 and came across these. The ones in background are for under seat jack mount, 3 dots. The SS ones were mainly clean but the blue ones threw me. Truck is orange and had green primer under cab. Would this been engine color? There is a flag on 2, EL on 1 and 2 with E.

Re: The 1960 - 1966 Chevrolet & GMC Pickups Factory Correct Restoration Thread

New to me 63 has 526A as a paint code which is Cameo White according to my literature. Drivers side has a faded section between the bright molding that has a smidgin of red. The passenger side is Cameo White like the main body color. According to what I'm reading there was only a 2 tone of Cardinal Red for the R10 which I believe to be Corvair.
The plate also has a 4 digit paint number that has been X'd out interestingly enough.
Although it really would set off between the bright moldings to have it Cardinal Red , I don't think they ever came that way in the C series.
Your thoughts?
Still has the crayon markings on the firewall and the rear crossmember of the frame.
It's dinged and dented but retains much of it's originality.
Oh , and is Coll Pack A/C equipped although it was installed center for a colum shift and the truck is a four speed. They heated and contoured the shifter around the the A/C unit.

My 63 is the same color with red seat. I looked into the paint between the moldings in the data book. It spells it out in there that the only color ever used was white between the moldings and that white trucks were white or body color in this case with off white. It would have made sense to be black like the tailgate lettering in my opinion and have seen guys paint red in there also but its not correct.
