Hey Friz, do you still have the 20 inches you cut out? My wife is talking about having another kid and that means my Blazer needs to be bigger.
Seriously though, good job on the Tahoe/Suburban(Taburban?), I've enjoyed this thread along with other stuff you have in the FAQ. Keep up the good work, can't wait to see this thing driving around.

Good choice They look better further aft. In fact, I've moved mine back a bit more when I shortened it. I'll get you the measurements.

Roof rack was a dealer install that I have shortened 10" You see them on ebay every now and then. They also came on the same era Blazers and even non-GM cars/trucks.

Hey friZzle, would you happen to remember how far into the door you had to cut or perhaps be able to take a measurement? Basically trying to find out the width of the green line, but if I had a measurement of the yellow line it would tell me everything I need to know. Can’t quote you on it but I remember a post of yours saying take any ideas and use them, well I’m gonna take you up on that.

I got the other one off. These things are not as easy to remove as you might expect. I chose to leave the lower/outer extremities of the tubs at the fender lip instead of wrestling with all those spot welds. This way I can just mate the new inners up to the remaining OG sections. Here's what I'm talking about: Cut at upper radius of tub: And cut down closer to fender arch with lower section remaining: This shows how much the OG inners arch inward and narrow at the top. I'll gain over 2" of usable space for tire width at extreme drop (not to mention more drop ): Here's the DS removed and aired out with bags on internal bump-stops. You can see the line marked on/near the "4th door" where I will clearance back 1": |

Mike, Do you have a problem putting gas in that thing? It looks like the gas fill tube runs uphill. Does this cause a hydro lock situation?

Well, before installing the tubs I had planned to clean up the notch and POR-15 it. in the process I found that my sway bar brackets were starting to bend a little at the tips. So I decided to pull them out and run another 2x2 across the notch (actually through both notches) protruding beyond the notches to act as the sway bar end-link brackets as well as stiffen the whole notch/bridge assembly. I'm also relocating the end-link "brackets" (now 2x2) slightly so there won't be as much stress put on the end-links.
I know I know pics... well it's not installed yet, just the old brackets removed and the notch prepped for paint. That involved removing all the hose clamps for the various air lines, etc, zip-tie'ing the lines away from the frame, and wire-wheeling away. While I'm in there I also decided it would be a good time to relocate my upper shock mounts inward to allow me to run a shock that won't limit my rear suspension travel. I ended up going with a shock spec'ed out for a 1984 F150 rear (old vs new): |

I mentioned before that I replaced all the rear wheel studs with longer ones. Ended up going with NAPA 641-3112. They require the holes to be drilled out just a little bit to 9/16" because of a slightly larger knurl.
