Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
AD, haven't got into the lights too far yet but here's a little better pic of the parts and pieces of the HID kit...offered by a company called Kensun. They're going for about $100/kit...I think.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks Rocktonka! Gotta check them out for my build. The old sealed beams leave a lot to be desired in comparison to what I've gotten used to with the newer wheels....and we have a lot of deer running around here. Better chance to see them with better lights.
Thanks again. |

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Changing things up a bit. We've been thinking that we needed to replace the retreads up front with new tires, and did that a couple weeks ago. As we were thinking of spare tire options and what would make sense, it somehow snowballed into new tires all the way around with new wheels.
We've just got the front done so far (need to sell the old wheels/tires for the rest), but we're really liking the new set-up.

Other than the caps over the lockouts that is just sick and will look awesome with the 58 body!

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
We've got open center caps coming...they forgot to ship them!
But, I kinda like the closed look

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Thanks! We're pleased with them.
Got the open center caps in, and like them the least out of the three options of open, closed, or no cap. The open caps are deeper than the closed...looks kinda funny and makes for a hell of a crap trap The no cap look is fine, and would be the most practical, but I like the closed cap look best...it's only 2 phillips screws holding it on and would be easy to pop off when 4WD is needed.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
I'd go with the closed cap also. Your truck should be able to carry a extra screwdriver in the tool box without it bogging down. You have a great build going on there. I like those big boy wheels and tires.

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
I really like those wheels a lot! I almost put them on one of my projects before I sold it. This will really set your truck off. I like the closed cap, but like the no cap too.

Thanks Kim! Thanks JB, we're playing around with the finish on the bedsides, but using the old wood still. It's kinda my boy's project and he's been hit and miss on it...too many distractions!

Well, since you brought it up, we decided to jump back into the bedsides a bit. My son is sanding the old, weathered, finish off the bedsides before fogging them with a bit of black paint, partially sanding that down, staining them, and then we'll coat them with a few coats of urethane. Pics don't show the urethane yet..

While he was working on those, I cut off the old bed rack gussets and welded in some new ones...

Re: 1958 Apache 38 Dually Dump Project
Nice work! Are your dimple die tools showing any wear yet?

I was thinking the same thing, that's one tool he's getting his money out of. Looks good and just think how many options you will have on where to place your tie downs.

The rack gussets look good. Rocktonka you have me thinking about where I can incorporate dimples into my build. Really liking them....and those welds!
