Re: mylow53 build
we scrached the bottom of the bumper pretty bad but then again who can see that. worst case i replace my chineze bumper for a hundred bucks. way better than trying to swap out an air bag in the getto!

Shame on you calling La Brea the ghetto, , which part of La Brea are you talking about? are you going to replace or repair the bag?

Re: mylow53 build
What model of firestone bags are you using? Also, what drop spindles?
Thanks in the advance. I have read through your thread 3-4 times now. It looks great.

Re: mylow53 build
Hey Greg, Sorry to here about you popping a bag, that always has been a fear of mine. It's good to hear you didn't do any major damage to your truck or even worse to your self! I up graded to AAA's 100 mile plan myself and it's paid off a few times already.

Re: mylow53 build
just called aaa and paid for the premier pkg $150 for the wife and me. one 200 mile tow and three 100 mile tows a year. i believe that would cover 4 flats!. still cheeper than a spare tire that i have no room for. so i've payed aaa just under $500 bucks this month. this isn't a cheep hobby!

Re: mylow53 build
Greg, we have the same AAA coverage as I don't have a spare for the IROC or Tahoe due to the posi rear and larger wheels than the spare. Plus you don't have to lug around the dead wieght! Glad to hear you're using your pick up. My wife just told me this morning(due to the high milage on my IROC and it's smog appointment)how much money to finish your truck? Give me a number! It's the 1st time she's brought it up in a long time. Maybe I can start working on my '54 again soon?! BTW, your truck turned out real nice! Congrats on a clean driver. That's my goal. Something I can drive but still get some heads to turn. No garage/trailor queen for me.

Re: mylow53 build
ok got the new bag in. i'm still tripple checking for clearance.
i've been asked several times about rim and tire size and back spacing. i think when it comes to back spacing people should have it measured for there specific truck. i don't think my settings are transferable since i have a custom rear width and additional spacers. but i can submit my tire sizes. i think they work perfectly so here are 2 picts of my sizes. both of the tires have almost same numbers but the rears have a 95y and the fronts have 92 y on them but the front's are 9" wide and the rears are 10" hope this helps GT

Re: mylow53 build
oops!!! while i was fixing the airbag issue the truck slipped off the jack. it didn't fall on me.. but it did land on the rack and pinion steering. at the time i didn't think much of it. once the air was ready to go and the front rims were re polished i pulled the truck out of the garage and parked it in the driveway to clean it. i noticed the steering was harder than before. i looked in the street to see all of my power steering fluid in a puddle! sooo i pick up a rebuilt rack from napa and yes they had one in stock! 130 bucks. spent all of sunday (short of going to church) installing the replacement. trouble was the new rack was slightly different. so the steering shaft no longer worked. i needed to clearance the motor mount and adjust all of my shaft joints. in the end everything eventually lined up. i need to take it to an alignment shop next then i can re clock my steering wheel.... sure seems like this airbag thing got out of hand!!!

Re: mylow53 build
thanks 51 i would be very timid with the glue on these doors. i tried the brothers gasket and steel rubbers gasket, both didn't allow my doors to latch easily. now every truck is different so maybe yours will work fine. i would suggest you buy the seal then using the blue painters tape install the rubber. check your door. if you can't close it you might try the universal seals i used on page 21 of my build... then after you are 1000 percent positive use a glue. believe it or not i'm using clear kitchen caulk to hold mine in. the black (gorilla snot) from 3m is the best for holding your seal in. but you cant remove it if you have a change of plans.... good luck and where are your build picts?

Re: mylow53 build
drove the truck to work today. i stopped by a local gas station that sells racing fuel. 100 octane. originally i wanted to fill er up with the go juice. then I saw the price and remembered the phrase "how fast do you want to go!" and decided at $6.89 a gallon i didn't need to go that fast!. so i put in 2 gallons and then toped off the rest with premium. about 5 miles down the road I noticed it had quite a bit more power than before. at one light i even spun the tires just leaving the light briskly....sure made the trip fun!!!

I plan on doing the same thing. Does the company you bought your MII front have such a bar?

Re: mylow53 build
i need to call them i was hoping to use a junkyard special. but I may have to go with the ford version. my issue is the lowered hight and the big fat airbag in the middle. there are some big clearance challenges to get one in... i thought the ford had additional bends in it ..?
