Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Dad found his impressive cable crimping tool for me and I finished painted 7 pieces for my truck.
Two lower 3 row radiator brackets Two headlight buckets Two j-nuts *yes I paint those. One hood latch support bracket I have to paint outside and with this rain coming, none too soon! |

Cleaned most the junk out of the cab and bed, then loaded it on the trailer for the trip home on Wednesday.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
I just came in. I put the newly repainted headlight buckets back on, cleaned the last of the electrical connections, including studs on starter and engine block ground, connected the last two ground wires to the core support, and removed the two front wheels. Yes, my rotors need sanding!

I also cleaned up the headlight retaining ring screws with a wire brush and bought some machine screws, washers, and lock nuts (stainless) to mount the front side marker lights. I don't really like J-nuts and I hate pointy screws....you can cut your hand reaching into the fender for something.

Re: What did you do to your truck today? Chapter II
Put the flush-fitting front side marker lenses on with 8-32 stainless steel machine screws, washers, and nylon lock nuts. Not "OEM" but I don't like j-nuts or pointy screws. Seems to be working fine.

Repaired the engine bay wire harness and dimmer wiring on the '67 custom and drove it.
Installed the front sheetmetal on the '68 Cummins swap for the last time!

Knocked the dirt dauber nests out of the alternator, and sprayed down the wasps that are trying to take over our project.

I reinstalled my headlights and retaining rings. I ended up using two of the original screws but 4 new 3/4 inch machine screws. It was just too hard to get the OEM short ones started. Turns out two of new ones are too long to fit properly so I'll have to get some 1/2 inch ones and try those. It doesn't help that my retaining rings aren't fully round....they've been bent some time before I came to own this truck. Ugh...... |
