Re: mylow53 build
Is a battery isolator switch for theft protection? I have been considering a switch that will automatically set itself when the motor is turned off. Then to start the engine you would have to manually engage the switch. That way if one is ADD he wouldn't forget to set the switch upon leaving the truck.

Re: mylow53 build
well it depends if the thieves are smart. it's not like the battery is in an obvious spot He would have to figure out how to start the truck and work the airbags...

Re: mylow53 build
I enjoyed the video Greg. I love to see the lil ones working on stuff. I've always ran a battery isolator switches on my rigs. It disengages everything but the alarm. That's not a pic of where you hid your switch is it? If so, what was your address again?

Re: mylow53 build
ok christmas present time. i want to finally get a radio for this truck. i've decided that original style with the mauve plastic is not an option. i kinda like the custom auto sound look but i have to be honest i no longer have the large cassette library that i use to.. so i wanted to ask you guys what my options are....
heres the list of features i an looking for 1.) looks good in the standard hole in the dash. (not interested in hiding the radio anywhere) 2.) no casette 3.) xm ready preferably no extra controller. 4.) phone bluetooth 5.) ipod/mp3 player 6.) number 3,4,5 available at the same time... i.e. multiple inputs ya i know kinda a dream list but some one will eventually make this for the aftermarket thanks GT

Re: mylow53 build
I know that some guys are getting external hardrives and doing ac/dc converters withr need them and using them to store movies, pictures and music so you never need a cd or dvd in your truck. Kinda like a large capacity iPod, I suppose. It may be cheaper than an iPod. Do a search for "carputer". I remember reading about it somewhere on here. I despise fumbling with cd's and worrying about them getting scratched. When I finish my '54, I will be doing it for sure. Here's what people are doing for home intertainment with the same thought accept it will aloow internet capability:
http://wdc.com/wdtvlivehub/?gclid=CO...FRBNgwodswjgnQ I wonder when we will have internet wired into our vehicles? It's already in our phones!

Re: mylow53 build
The internet part is easy to do with a carputer! just get a USB wireless card or use you smartphone via the USB port. Remember some smartphone/phone co. don't like that and will charge extra for it.

Re: mylow53 build
Here is a discussion from 2009, retrosound was getting ready to make some new units with Ipod, mp3 player connections built in. I've decided I'm just going to get a amp with direct inputs for my mp3 player. I've always had a radio delete plate for the dash.

Re: mylow53 build
ok i spoke to both vintage auto sound and retro sound and as far as i can tell they both work but if you want multiple inputs with out an additional external switch you need retrosound. so if i want to hard wire in xm and every once and a while use the ipod retro seems to work the best. Nobody offers the blue tooth option wonder why?

Re: mylow53 build
ok i finally got my swap meet treasures installed in the dash. after way too much polishing and some re studding my 30 dollar original stainless steel is in. additionally i was noticing the radio hole has a very familiar aspect ratio to it... it looks almost 16x9 and fits my iphone just fine.... anyone else thought of this....

Re: mylow53 build
ok i got the radio in kinda... i decided to just hook up an amp to drive my iphone. apparently it ain't that hard to do. so i just plug in the Iphone charger and the cable charges the phone and breaks out the audio to 2 rca connectors. the only issue is you should have a remote mounted volume knob, which i do under the seat. so i have an un molested dash and can stream internet radio from the iphone "http://www.pandora.com/" the speakers behind the dash can really shake you... i doubt ill win any stereo contest but it's a simple solution to an age old problem!

Re: mylow53 build
Very cool! My son and I listen to Skillet together. his favorite song is "Monster". Good clean music I don't have to worry about him listening to. So your phone only plays through 2 speakers? My buddy streams music wirelessly through his head unit though all his speakers with blue tooth. The cool part is he can take calls, the music is put on pause, and it's all hands free.

Re: mylow53 build
Everything comes from the iPhone to all 4 speakers. So far it works pretty good the music fades out when I get a call. But the phone call dosent come thru the speakers. Probably for a good reason. Since if your crancked up it would feed back thru the mic.

Re: mylow53 build
You can do the iPhone trick with anything that has a 3.5mm output jack on it too. I've seen guys run full systems without a head unit and off a iPod Nano or MS Zune (which I have). You can even get a switch box and have multiple hookups so you can easily switch between different sources. In my 08 truck I run a simple 3.5mm patch cable from my Moto Droid to my head unit. No matter what I'm listening to, Pandora or Subsonic (make sure you check this site out for their product that lets you stream you own music just like Pandora to your phone or any other computer. I love it), the phone pauses the music and switches to speaker phone mode so I can take the call hands free. Then after the call ends, the music resumes play. So nice!
As for the truck, that thing is b-e-a-utiful! Some jealousy from over here! -Panelrodder
