Not yet bill, but I did find out that I need synchromesh transmission fluid for the t5 which here in Canada will cost $50 just to fill the tranny, when will the costs stop?!

But on a positive note I did finish rebuilding the engine for my dirt bike, I did a big bore kit, clutch and bigger valves. http://youtu.be/_hzehgbL5mM so now I'll get to spend some more time on the truck.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside

Just filled up the t5 with penzoil's finest. Got it started up and right away I could tell that the gasket is now sealing. It's really quite, except for backfiring. Yep still having problems. It starts easily now but it just won't idle, I have to keep the rpm's up then it just backfires and usually dies. I've played around with the air fuel mixture screw and just can't get it to idle or run smooth. Here's a video http://youtu.be/k-DiHR2XeO4
Thanks

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside

Oh never mind guys, once it warmed up it would run smoothly but would idle too low and then die. I bumped the idle up and it runs great now, idles at 300rpm. Exhaust has a nice sound to it. http://youtu.be/0Zxcsv9oupM

Got a bit of work done on the rig today, fabbed up an inner rocker for the passenger side. Still needs some grinding but it's starting to take shape

Glad you got it running right, always a big relief. On your piston shifter, I wonder if a engraving shop could cut your Shifter pattern in it for you? Then you cut put some paint in the new reliefs? Just a thought. I'm enjoying watching you work on this

Thanks, it still needs a bit of tuning but it's running pretty well. That's what I was thinking for the shifter if I could get it engraved then paint then sand with a high grit paper, since the engravings wouldn't be touched by the sand paper they would be the only remaining paint if that makes sense.

Got quite a bit done after school. I finished making the inner rocker panel and got it fully welded in, now it just needs to be ground smooth.

Nice work as always. How long did it take you to weld in the inner rocker? How do you go about doing it? Do you tack a few spots here and there and then let cool for a while?

Thanks Ben
It took about 15 minutes of welding. It's ok if the metal heats up a bit since it is part of the floor and it's all covered by the rocker and floor mat. I usually tack a couple places then use a small hammer to persuade it into the spot I want then more tacking.

Re: A 15 year old's project. Rusty 62 stepside

I thought I'd show you guys a donor truck I'm picking up in the next week or so.
1978 GMC Sierra that is complete minus the motor. $300. I will be using the front crossmember for the 62 so I can have disk brakes and cheaper front end parts. I'll also use the rear axle plus all four 15" 5 lug steeleies so that it is 5 lug all around instead of having 5 on the front and 6 on the rear. I'm considering also doing power steering.

That '78 will provide lots of good parts. I'd recommend doing the power steering. It sure is nice to have when you're backing into a tight parking spot at a cruise night surrounded by spectators.
