From what I understand the roller job takes 7-10 coats with days & days of sanding and 99% of them still look like crap!

Roller jobs are very time consuming to do it right. You have to wet sand between coats and do 7 or more coats to get it right! I used a 96 cent per can of walmart rattle paint on mine. It looks great. I even primed and painted the vinyl dash pad and it looks brand new. I am going to do the door panel wrap thing it does sound very cool.

Actually good news, I found a black harbor frieght 1 qrt 1.8mm spray gun BRAND NEW! in a bush today in the ghetto (prolly stolen). SWEET!!! okay so now I need some recommendations on paint... less than $150 preferably, including bc/cc hardener and activator etc.

Should I just stick with summit's hugger orange?

It would be really cool if I could do a mettallic or a candy or pearl, or even a kameleon but im afraid all those would be waayyyyy expansive.

PS I still like the rustoleum idea... but I see you guys' points

Tractor Supply has Allis Chalmers Orange Enamel... $45/gallon and they sell hardener as well.

yep, one of the boardmember (samwise68) painted his Oliver Green.. you should read his build thread for a low budget build. He was in HS as well and did a pretty nice job with what he had...

How can you tell if its a 307 or a 350?

All I know is that it's a V8 with a rochester carb.

How do I tell the difference???

check the glovebox SPID sticker first, then look for a stamping in front of the pass side valve cover on the flat deck of the block. Last set of cast numbers is behind the driver side head just above the bellhousing, hard to see without a mirror though.

You can then research those numebrs online..

2bbl's came on everything for every year (i think)... you need to decipher the block codes.

I think Kubota orange is just about a perfect match. Thanks for the help BTW. It's a 307 with a TH tranny and a 2bbl rochester carb. =]

OH great news!

Theres a really cool man that my dad has known for about thirty years. He's about 80 and he has agreed to let me use part of his shop, tools, sandblaster, paint guns, etc. He makes show cars for a living. Like beautiful, off the assembly line 1930's model A show cars.

So many of my problems have just been solved!

Just be sure to be careful with his tools and to live it cleaner than you found it.... a guy like that could show you some great tips as well...

Tommorow Im buying my parts for the engine since it'll turn over but wont crank.

Since it sat in the weather with the hood off for a while im thinking

8x Spark Plugs 2.10
1x Plug Wires 19.95
1x Distributor point and condenser set 9.95
1x Distributor Cap 7.95
1x Distributor rotor 3.95
1x Distributor coil 19.99
1x Distributor lead 6.99

And I already have an oil filter/oil
and antifreeze..

Think I have it covered?

Or keep your dist. and coil and replace the points and condencer with an electronic unit from like Crane Cams. Summit has them for well under $100.

I know I know, im sorry. My dad refuses to let me though because hes all about completely stock. Id personally rather have performance but he's fitting the bill so whatever.

Any other reccomendations other than what I have listed? I'm gonna try to get a carb rebuild kit to but that may have to wait a couple weeks.
