Re: mylow53 build

the cab will sit on an original frame since i won't have over 350 hp. the idea is to keep it with as much original metal as i can. my personal time machine.... oh the frame is still at the rod shop i'm just concentrating on the cab rust for now. heres some pics of my 11 year old welding. were filling in the gas tank filler hole. he cut out the replacement metal by himself shaped it, and i tacked it in. he then filled in the rest of the welding... his welding has improved it ain't no row of dimes but it will hold just fine...

Re: mylow53 build

I envy your father son project and plan on doing one with my 2 year old son as soon as he shows interest. I want him to build his 1st truck. I hope this will teach him respect for it and he wont wrap it around a tree. Keep up the good work and big props to your kiddo!

Re: mylow53 build

progress continues now i know i am not a master fabrcator to say the least but it seems every time i try to mary the old metel with the new they don't line up. here I repaired the driverside floor and kick pannel. the new kick panel wasn't even close to the same bend as the original. so as the host of muscle car lou santiago says "it's gonna require some MODIFICATION"
so after a cupple of hours of modification the patch panel fits. heres the results

Re: mylow53 build

sorry guys i've been with out a laptop for a bit while i change jobs. but i haven't stoped working on the 53. so here's what youv'e missed..
i replaced the cowel vent. in the first pict i show what was there before. and repaired the rust in the kick panels and fenders. also i fixed the window hole. you see when ever it rained my left foot would get wet. i could never figure that out till now but then again it's obvious now.

Re: mylow53 build

in other news Da rod shop was sold and i wasn't told. i was still waiting for them to finish the rear end, or just start it. they had a 4k depositefor the parts, and the old shop owner was moving to texas (you know the guy with all the experience). in the mean time the poor old 53 was sitting outside collecting rust on all the new bare metal suspension parts. needless to say i wasn't happy. i had waited months for them to do work on the truck since they were going thru some tough health issues i tried to be patient... any ways when the paint supply store next door told me that the previous owner was moving to texas i decided to pull the plug. i asked for my deposite back. They were real nice and refunded me the money. so i asked the guy who is doing my paint if the shop next door could drop in a 4 link and rear end. so in the space of 4 days they have sand blasted the frame ordered all the parts including a heights special built 4 link. i think they should be done by next friday assuming all the parts are in and they fit...

Re: mylow53 build

You are doing some very good work and you son welding at his age reminds me of me building lowriders with my brother when I was his age. I did not have a pops so my older brother (13 years older) was the next best thing he is gone now but I will never forget building cars with him. That is so cool you have your son involved.

ok i was looking at my cab corner and originaly i thought the body line was just bashed in a bit so i ignored it. now that i have looked at it closer i've noticed that it's rotten. guess what they don't make that patch pannel unless you want to buy the 300 buck top of the entire cab... does anyone have this on a junker i could it have cut out and graft in? if so e-mail me at gregataylor53@yahoo.com we'll work it out

Greg-

Happy Easter

I have a 48 three window cab that I could cut up for you. I am planning on scrapping it after I have mine closer to 100% complete. Let me know if you are interested. I sent you a PM.

Nice project.

Re: mylow53 build

ok guys i need 2 more hard to buy parts. i'm more than willing to pay for these if you can part with them. first my door window mount the thing that holds the glass as the crank moves in it's track. they are both rusted out. they seem pretty simple in design. if any one knows where i could buy these new or has a set their tossing out.... also i thought i had these but i can't seem to find them. the inner window trim the 2 peices that butt up to the frount window and also have a vent for the defroster

Have you considered using power windows, as they don't use that part on the window!!

Greg-

Let me know if you have any luck. I also have (2) doors with glass and tracks. I could send you the whole units. They roll up and down fine. I am no longer using those doors plus I will be switching to power windows.

Let me know, we can work something out.

Greg-

You can go with cheap ones $150.00 - 200.00 off eBay. I personally am going with Nu-Relics power window kit. It is a direct bolt in and is made for our trucks. Some of the cheaper ones are made for straight glass so you have to really screw with them to get them to work. I checked out the Nu-Relaics unit at a show last year and they are great quality.

The Nu-Relics are $420.00 for the set.

Here is a link
