I will donate. Now it may only be $20 or so but its somthing to keep the board going. Knowing about GMCPaul has helped me so much on parts and this board has given me more help than any manual ever could of. Its worth it now my truck is getting painted. Also, as soon as shirts are sold I will get one.

OK.. I dont care what josh does with the money. As long he doesn't spend it foolishly on drugs or anything and I know he isnt that kind of guy. If anything possibly when we donate he should set a time on how long this money will last him and stick to it. That way he knows how much $$$ he'll save to pay for webhosting, software, ect. and then the rest can be left for his personal use.

I think its fine for him to be able to have some for his truck and personal use since he spends so much time on here and in chat.

The way I look at it if about 150 people donated $10 or maybe $15 and the dealers payed him more and then the T-Shirt donations he should have enough to keep the site going and maybe $300-400 for his own use. I AM NOT TRYING TO SAY HOW MUCH ANYONE SHOULD DONATE. Just some very loosely calculated math.

This board has saved me a lot of money on getting stuff that would of otherwise cost me.. just for the price of shipping. Then all the help no manual can offer. All the places I have learned of to get parts such as GMCPaul and KingParts and the great people I have been introduced to.

Is this because nobody is going to these ads? What is the ratio of clicks on ads vs dollars for board? Maybe alot of users just aren't aware that the ads actually bring income to help support this site

I'll shoot ya an MO. Ever thought about an aution on parts. We donate the parts and send Josh the money. Better that a cake sale since I can't bake. I'm sure we all have some parts that we don't need that can go to a good cause.

I would be glad to pay extra just to get the banners OFF!!! LOL

Money's on the way, Josh. I don't mind the "Contributor" under my name. In fact I like it. Maybe it'll light a fire under the butts under the knuckle-heads who didn't contribute last time.

Rock on.

68 Suburban: Yeah, I agree entirely. This is the best resource on the web by far, and it's free. To keep it that way I would assume people would be happy to cough up $20 bucks or so in donations every few months.

I mean, who cares how Josh spends it? Bottom line is he does good development work on this site as far as I can tell. He's on top of bugs, and is receptive to user input, and speaking as a developer myself its work he could be doing for a whole hell of a lot of money (even in this economic climate).

Follow me for a second. As an example of what he's putting up with lets say he works for a company who has this site up as a service. They would probably would have to pay him an anual salary of $50K per year to do development work, which is modest but for an experienced developer quite low. After taxes that's over $8000 per quarter (every 3 months) or for a 40 hour work week around $17 per hour (again, after taxes - pretax it's $26 per hour). In that situation the site would NOT be free. All of us would have to pay $20 per month just to get our PM's off the site, and if we had problems we wouldn't talk to him directly. We'd call a 1-800 number. Over 1 month lets say there's only 2/3 of the membership we have now (around 3500 members). That's $70,000 per month.

Now lets say we're back with the site we have now. If 150 of us donated $10 per quarter on average that's only $1500 per quarter ($500 per month). Personal time put into this is on average, what? +20hrs a week (3hrs a day including weekends)? That's $6.25 per hour for personal time he could be spending on his truck, or earning more money some other way.

See the difference? We can all relate to wanting more time and money to do what we want to do. He's giving his time up for very little return to provide us with a resource. Doing it for free indicates personal interest beyond the call of duty. This isn't ditch digging. You can earn $8-9 per hour doing that.

Bottom line is let Josh do his business, and try to cough up as much $ as you think your time on this site is worth. As far as I'm concerned spend it ALL on your truck, Josh. Just promise me one thing. Keep the site up!

Hey Josh
I tried to donate last time. You never let me know where to send it. I'll keep an eye on you this time to make sure that you get some from me. LOL. I got a good Idea too. Lets start a Truck fund. Josh gets his done first then we will collect and get mine done and so forth. What do you think ??? no cutting in line. My money that I send is not for the board. Its for your truck and your time.If you want to have a cold one out of it or maybe a nice dinner with someone special thats ok too. Make sure that some peoples money goes towards the board but not mine. Keep up the good, hard, time consuming, putting up with all kinds, WORK.

I really don't think it's out of line to ask where the money is going. I'm curious (not in a non-trusting kind if way, just curious). I know for a fact that the domain name itself costs about $20 - $30, year since I also have one myself (and just renewed it). I pay $12.00 a year for 20MB of web space and paid a one-time setup fee of $50. I have no idea how much web space a message board takes up (or data transfer), but I'm sure it's well over 20MB. After checking out the vBulletin web site, it looks like it costs $160 (one time) for the software license, $135 for first time installation (by a professional), and it costs $135 to upgrade to newer versions of vBulletin. As for monthly web space costs, I have no idea but I'd guess around $50 a month? Just a guess. Maybe you should have like a $5 sign up fee and maybe a buck or two a year after that. If every board member paid even a dollar a year, that should be more than enough. Just my $0.02..... correct me if my figures are wrong.

Or maybe the parts vendors who advertise and sell parts on here could pay an advertising fee?
