I love my 69 C10 but my heart is with my 68 rs/ss Camaro, and my 67 Camaro Drag car.
Lucky find, my 68 took years to get also. Last edited by camaro__thunder; 10-28-2007 at 07:59 PM. |

Re: My new toy !!!
I can't get over your good fortune and also the fact that was probably less than 25 miles from my house. Great job. The 70 Chevelle I am trying to get is in this area as well. I have only been working it for a few months, so hopefully I won't have to be as paitent as you. I would love just to troll this area and buy finds like I have seen the last 2 years.

Re: My new toy !!!
I just can't believe that somebody would let a car like that sit and deteriorate over a 32 year period, and not do anything with it. I'm glad to see that you rescued it! I have always wanted a 69 Camaro Z28. Keep us posted on the progress on it! I'd stick a 350 in it and drive it while I was rebuilding the 302. Great score! ...Joe

She was mentally sound, just really mean & wanted to be alone (shot at me once) I dunno if I'll drive it while I fix it, as it's worth so much But I am thinking about building a non DZ 302 (I have most of the parts to build one) to put in it & save the original DZ engine I have a good 350 block & 283 crank, prolly get some vortec heads & something like 9.5:1 to 11:1 pistons It's prolly what I'll do, cuz I'd hate to blow up the DZ engine after having it rebuilt Plus that way it'd run like a souped up Z/28 Last edited by Spray-Bomb; 10-28-2007 at 10:10 PM. |

Re: My new toy !!!
Sounds like a good plan to me! Keep us posted. As far as mentally sound, it looks to me like the jury is out on that one! Living in squalor like that isn't something that a sane person would do I wouldn't think! And then shooting at you??!! Geez you deserve that car since you got shot at trying to buy it! ...Joe

Re: My new toy !!!
I'll keep everybody posted, but it'll prolly be a little while before I can do anything to it
I have a butt loud of stuff to sell & about 2 projects to finish (neither of them very long, I'm on the tail end of one & the other is more like just getting it put together & on the road) But after that, I should have enough money & time to work on it |

Re: My new toy !!!
For an inexpensive tranny to get it running while you are looking for the period correct muncie, try these guys:
http://mrracingequipment.com/ and go to the transmissions section. I just bought a reworked saginaw close ratio 4 speed from them for $545 plus $80 shipping. Its period correct, will fit (since it was in many Camaro's from the period), and is cheap for a "get it running now" fix. The Hurst shifter for the '69 camaro is available from Summit, as is the install kit. Shifter will run about $220, the install kit about $125. Unless you have parts on hand or some good used ones available thats as cheap as I could find. GREAT FIND!!!! Glad your persistance paid off and you rescued an American legend. Keep us posted on the progress.

Re: My new toy !!!
I've had mine a long time 1984. I started restoring in 92 right when gm discontinued all the body parts but I was able to get all but one quarter , had to pay 600$ for that one. I put the car away and 13 years later started on it again. this time I will finish it. When you start taking yours apart keep us posted.

Spray-Bomb, I'm not messing with you, but I remember buying and storing a Muncie-Saginaw 4 speed with the original Hurst shifter many moons ago. I bought it to go with the freshly rebuilt Hi-Perf passenger 396 long block that is probably located in the same storage building. The engine has also been sitting in storage since the rebuild, which is sad considering I rebuilt it in High School and I graduated in 1993. I know without a doubt that the 396 is still there (albeit with peeling paint, shame on me) but I don't have direct access to the storage unit right now. I just called Dad and he said that he would go looking for it tomorrow or Monday. I seem to remember that it was either newly rebuilt (at least a 11 years ago, mind you) or it had been "gently used". The really sad part is that the parents may have sold the tranny in a bleak financial moment to put groceries in the fridge while I was in the Marine Corps. I got out of the Marines in 2002 if you want a time frame for reference. I don't know if it is still there in the storage building(s) but if it is, I'll let you know. The good part is that if that transmission IS still there, it's located about 45 miles west of Fort Worth, in a little town called Mineral Wells. |

Re: My new toy !!!
If its the original distributor you found its worth $1000 bucks. The wheel would be a YH code ralley worth a couple hundred. Tach and gauges were an option and not standard equipment. Sweet find worth 30K like you found it. Which green is it. 57 fathom, 59 frost, or 79 ralley green. Restore it the way it came , a flat hood D80 non style trim car.
