on your sbw truck I would cut under the seam ,a 1/2 inch or so with a cut off wheel, then you can get in to drill the spots, or just use some pliers and wiggle the piece off.

on your bbw donor cab, the opposite, cut above the seam.

your only other option is to remove the roof skin to get at the spot welds in that area.

I used a hook knife and a hammer in that seam and it split the spotwelds nicely. Hit my hand a few times but it works well. I split the spotwelds along the door edge and around the small window opening as well with the hook knife.

I picked it up at a hardware store. It's used for cutting carpets. The one I had came with a wooden handle, it worked well. Needed sharpening after. They don't cost much, so I wanted to try. Splits the spotwelds nicely without destroying the metal. You need to make sure your between the sections or you can cut through the metal. Do a couple, then you'll get the feel for how much of a blow is needed from the hammer. It will not work on the lower part of the BBW section to rear panel, you'll have to drill those out.

If you check in anytime soon, what rear glass seal did you use? After converting mine to a BBW, I've had 2 different seals installed. The 1st 'pinched' outward in the outer & inner lower corners. The 2nd didn't 'pinch' on the outside but you can tell where he had to mash the f*** out of it to get it to lay flat; the inside corners are still pinched outward.

Precision rubber on the 1st go around & some 'universal' stuff for the 2nd. The glass guy said his universal seal was the same stuff that was in the Precision bag just cheaper because he got it in bulk.

Is the Steele Rubber seal a single 157" straight piece or does it have the lower corners formed?

i got my rear seal from classic chevy truck parts of america seems like it was around 30.00 dollars. it fit great not sure who there supplier is. mine was one solid piece had to cut about a foot off of it. did find that using the correct seal instalation tool and lots of soapy water helped alot. someone mentioned wd40 but that seemed messy to me. good luck holler if i can help.

I found Soft Seal brand @ carandtruckparts & it has molded corners. I'm going to try that one next....

I never did move on this but yes it was the car&truckparts in Cali. The corners are still pinched for now. I think I'm going to call in a favor to my buddies (Keith & Roger) on this one. They seem to be very creative (& successful) w/this PITA stuff.

I'll revive this thread by saying WOW! man your truck is beautiful especially after the BBW swap. I would LOVE to do this on my 65, but I have no idea where to find a donor chunk of metal from a BBW truck. You just dont see stuff like that around here.

I saw someone mentioned that they made a kit for this....did we every hear anything else? Wouldnt it be cool to be able to order an already formed and stamped BBW piece new out of a catalogue? But then I guess everyone would have one then.

This is a MUST on my list now!
