Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300
Had the cab blasted. Then brought home to remove and replace rotten steel. Not a lot of surprises.

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300
I had welded in the new metal then once the welds were ground down I sprayed a rubber undercoat on the metal.
I also formed new lower out cab corners, I have them installed and the welds ground and first fill of All Metal on them. |

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300
If you host your pictures on a site like photobucket you can rotate them. Also if you have windows just open them on your computer and it should open with windows photo viewer. You can click rotate at the bottom and then save it upright.

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300
Very nice looking piece, bet that was pricey. Looks good and seems to fit nice. One question, does the new outer piece bolt to the old inner piece at the cab line, or do you have to rosebud well it in..Jim

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300
Jim.
The pieces are not that bad for cost. You can bolt it, but it is also welded in place. So I will do both I marked the 4 holes then put blind nuts on the new panel. You will have to rose bud the corners. It was done at the factory so I re did it. I only removed the outside so that the cab does not shift. Once I remove the inside I will weld the corners. Then install the inside piece. Last edited by 54 CHEVY LR; 02-10-2014 at 08:01 PM. Reason: spelling |

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300
Looks good! I wonder if panel bonding adhesive might be the ticket here (at the bottom). Many of these trucks leak water where the top and bottom meet, so some of us weld the seam after the fact. You have the opportunity to do something different. That would seal it, stick it together, and allow you to shape the body line to your satisfaction when done.

Re: My Winter Build 54 Chevy 1300
If the picture is able to zoom in you will see I used an adhesive on the joints and then text screwed it. I remove the tech screws and fill it with weld.
Also along the bottom I glued it and then text screwed the piece. Once I remove the front piece I will remove the screws and weld the holes. |
