Re: Jim Bob a build thread

Well it's been parked a while
went to start it and it back-fired n quit got it goin and popped the hood
oil all over the intake, front seal.......not good
Havn't been able to set the timing right no mark tab
the trucks vac advance was not hooked to the proper place before i owned it
it is now, drove it to a garage said to check the intake, timing
called me back said the intake was leaking and the valve covers were too,
timing cover dosn't seem to have a seal
In short they did the intake, etc called me to say the 2nd set of covers are leaking
these i had on another block always seems to smell oil burning
what would cause this? could i have cracked it?
It just to the right of the first bolt

Re: Jim Bob a build thread

thanks after thinking it over i decided to roll it
it will take about three coats, blue is still coming threw
this is one coat, and the red looks burnt orange in the sun(cause of the blue)
on my last "roll on" is was covering a burgendy kinda red and it worked great too
but i didn't thin anything out, some lines showed
the red did fade but i just recoated it till the (car)died
for this I will try thinning after about three coats of thick
works with wood lol why not try a truck
i used a small foam roller(i take a pic of it next time)
i figured knock off the bugs and bad runs after 3 coats
try a thin coat then
did the hood @ noon maybe easier if it was cooler, roller wouldn't almost stick

Re: Jim Bob a build thread

thanks man!
how much paint do you think a suburban will take for the whole car?

I want to use Rustoleum and that is pretty expensive over here:
0,75 liter go for €25,- (euros)
so
0,2 gallons go for 35 US dollars over here

Re: Jim Bob a build thread

it is far to expensive to ship.

I have now found a website were I can get 5 liter of it for €133,-
still expensive, but already better and far cheaper then original paintjob

Re: Jim Bob a build thread

i got it at Canadian Tire, but it's for sale all over
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
but gloss
i was putting it on thick as it was drying fast, didn't run badly but you really see it being first coat
took a shot today in the rain with no overhead sun, you can see the bleed

Re: Jim Bob a build thread

this instructions says foam brushes are the way to go with. I'll try on my hood if I can find the time in the next weeks...will order paint tonight...

http://www.instructables.com/id/The-...-paint-your-c/

and he thinned his Rust-Oleum paint for w50% with paint thinner...

Re: Jim Bob a build thread

i think 50% is too thin
i havn't thinned yet and the blue is coming threw
he did 6 coats at 50% i'm doing 3 at 100%
i think i'll have more to sand but i think he might go threw the paint quicker
I'm gona try thinning the top coats(after 3/100s)
and i used a small foam roller(about 4 inches or so)
http://www.canadiantire.ca/AST/brows....jsp?locale=en
those foam brush things pull/fall apart after a while(i use them doing wood varnish)
