Here's a thought, does your school (or maybe another in your area) offer a vocational tech program where they teach auto repair or body work? They're always looking for project material so students can get hands on experience. It may be a cost effective way for you to get things done and it may speed up the process a bit. You could be getting the engine running at home while they could be fixing some rust for you back in the classroom.

UPDATE
The passenger door is open, the drivers door is fixed but i'm missing the clip somewhere in the door, so its only temporary. I have a core support coming.
The 350 thats under the hood possibly has some machining issues so im unsure if i can use it. The one in the back we assume is full of water, but we will open it up to see how bad it is.

I need to know the best way to remove the interior, do you think i should strip the paint or just sand and paint... i have to fill some exterior holes so my door doesn't rust anymore.

I still need as much help as i can get with anything that gave you guys issues, just so i know whats possibly coming up...

If you have rust around the windshield,drip rail areas, and cowl (take your glovebox out or peek around it,yes you gotta get on the floor so get a towel or something soft to lay on and peek up) Mine was rusted out in the rain gutter on the firewall too. If you have anything like that your better off saving your pennies and finding a cab in better shape (just floorpans lol)

It really depends on the type of paint job you want. Chemical stripper would be the way to go for a first class finish, you just have to be careful to be sure all of the residue is fully flushed out of the hard to reach areas. If not, it will come back to haunt you by lifting the fresh paint in those areas later. The acid can also burn your skin and eyes if not careful.
You can still get good results by sanding down to the factory paint. Just be sure you use a good sealer coat before spraying the new paint.

at the moment i do not have pictures, I can get pics done probably tomorrow,
i just went out and pulled up the carpet near the doors. passenger side is mostly solid from what i see, except one of the screw holes has rusted to about a two inch hole.
the drivers side at first glance looked great, but as i tapped to find soft spots it sounded weird, i relized that some one has attempted to patch it by just slapping on a piece of metal and putting sealant to hold it on, Oh how i hate stupid repairs.

Gave the truck a half ass bath so its blue now (mostly)

I took out he carpet, and the whole seat (by myself, what a pain)
I vacuumed and poked around a bit, Found an ants nest in my dash
And the patchwork on the floor covered more than expected.. Tell me where you think i should go from here. theres obviously two giant hole on each side The rest of the floor is pretty solid as far as i can tell, Just some rust around the door

yeah your floors are pretty bad but its all fixable

next time you got your camera ready take some pics of the corners of the outside of the windshield, and the same area but on the inside. And while your cowl is off (thing between hood/cab) peek around down in that, mine was rusted out..

the cowl is gnarly but underneath is really nice,

Ill go take pictures of those other areas now and upload them. wont take too long..

and the tool box has issues, the hinge is broken so i cant get it open as of right now

haha take it easy on the tool box i think there worth something, oil it up or something just dont break it (something id do lol). Im talkin about up under what you see when you take the cowl off..

I think I know the spot old blue is talking about right begind the glovebox were the heater comes in if you look at pic 18 the pass. side shot w/o the fender on were the heater is that area

Oh, yeah that box looks fine from what i can tell.

on the outside it may look fine but you may wanna remove it just to make sure alot of moisture can get stuck right there and give it cancer

Yeah I'll get to pullin that off once i pull it around, i know there is an ants nest in there somewhere, There freaking EVERYWHERE. this is going to be interesting tear down...


P.S. I sold the GMC today, Title said it was a 72 also.. Sold it for $1,500 within 24 hours of deciding to sell. It had mannyy issues i dont even want to name, But he started it up and drove it home, Burned rubber leaving our street.

I was lucky, I had a buddy who wanted it for about two years. I asked him if he would buy it and an hour later he came down, He was down twice more yesterday and bought it for his fiancée. now the total is up to $1,600 today he paid another hundred and the original carb for the "working" carb.



Yeah idk why the ants are there, they crawl under the hood and found a hole somewhere... my guess is from the heater box... i sucked up half their nest but their still there.

Ive been working so i don't know when ill get into the truck again.

I don't want to throw it on craigslist because its not officially for sale..

I have an opprotunity to buy one of these trucks that's already done, lowered painted.. everything... that's why I'm considering this sell at all

he means your name is in pink as in your not a supporting board member which is i think $25 a year subscription which allows you to post WIW ads on your on things and for sale ads. And personally i think you will get so much more satifaction out of your own truck knowing that you did the work on it and toughed out the hard spots of the build which you dont get in buying a finished truck but selling the truck is 100% your decision.

Yeah, I want that satisfaction, and I want to keep it because it was my dad's (he passed away in 07') but sometimes I just think I'm in over my head. I need a truck for my senior year and there's no way I can finish this by then...
