I think the 69 would be the best if your looking for a "beater"..... But if you're going to be carrying the family around then it might not fit the bill....

Another option for you since you have the itch to turn some wrenches:

I know where a nice burb is that could use a 5 lug swap, some discs, and a set of bags...... Just a thought for ya...

I voted for the shop truck until I found out about the "family of 4" get the 72 blazer. The ac will keep momma happy and you have plenty of room for the kids in the rear and enough room to add a dvd player and screens for the kids to watch while driving back down south.

Besides you already have a burb and a truck, Might aswell go for the hattrick and have all three

What are the specs on the SWB?

My opinion. Burb first. Nice classy parts hauler, less likely to have things stolen out of the back. You need something to "tinker" with, not another project. I think the others will turn in to projects. THen when you finish your other burb, sell this one to a deserving member (hint hint). Yo will get your money back easily and have a nice hauler in the mean time.

I dunno about rational but I know if the kids stay occupied during a road trip then momma stays happy during the road trip which means after the road trip you get to play with the toys more cause you kept momma happy during the road trip,,,,,,,Did that make any sense? Sounded good when I thought it,,,,,

I think it comes down to the two blazers -- you've already got a burb and the family won't fit comfortably in the otherwise-sweet shop truck -- and I voted for the non-AC '71. It's beautiful. The thing about the '72 is that it seems like the PO was maybe kind of...eccentric (I'm thinking in particular about the homemade hood ornament

). And if you're like me, you hardly ever like all the "improvements" made by a PO (like, say, the fire-hazzard air cleaner).

Now, if you're gonna keep this "driver," I think you gotta go with the '71. If this is something you're gonna resell in a year or so; if this is just something to get you by until you get back to FL, then I'd say go with the '72 and spend less $. Who knows what the economy will be like in another year, and you'd stand to lose less with a smaller investment on the front end. But if this is gonna be a long-term addition to the fleet, I think you'd be happier dropping bigger coin on the cleaner, more original rig.

Just my $.02 -- You can probably tell, but I'm stuck at home sick with WAY too much time on my hands. Good luck, man.

I'll make it easy for you. Buy the 72 blazer, drive it to get your fix until you get ready to reclaim your others. I'm in OKC, you will drive right past me on I-40. Keep the blazer going, and when you go get your others, I'll buy the blazer from you. I'll meet you on I-40.

Hi Rob. I would go with the 71 Blazer - the 4 speed version is a lot better driver than the auto in my book and it looks like the body is in better condition - anytime you can avoid rust and body work, do that. As for AC, it will be nice in the Southeast - BUT - the aftermarket add-on AC units work a lot better - much less complicated/troublesome and more efficient and better cooling (esp in a Blazer) and less heating up of engine system - than the factory AC units. Just get a good 4 core rad when you install it.

I would not drive a lightweight shorty - as you can see by my fleet - does not seem secure or feel like a real truck. I hope you get the 71 - you will like it.

BTW - where can I see that ramp truck with sleeper in Alb.? I have a nice low mileage 72 MoHome that I would like to convert to a hauler, and the one you mentioned may teach me something.
