Need help picking a daily driver......

.....I haven't had a "beater" to drive for over a year now and both of my projects (69 burb and 67 SWB 4 Door CrewCab) are in FLorida. I'm going stir crazy with nothing old to drive or tinker with. I've found 4 locally and I'm trying to figure which one I should buy. Here's the choices:

1. 72 Blazer (4x4, CST, 350, auto, a/c, minimal rust, needs some work)
2. 71 Blazer (4x4, 350, 4spd, no rust, ready to go)
3. 68 Suburban (4x4, 327, 4spd, no rust, no power steering)
4. 70 SWB CST (350, 4spd, front disc, 5 lug, lowered, "shop truck")

What are your opinions on what each one is worth? I think the guy that owns them has them priced right.

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

Without picts it is kind of hard to choose but going with my instinct
I would choose #4 the shop truck.

GET THE SHORTY! It looks the best, plus 4x4's have high gears so they have worse mileage. Just my $.02

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

4X4's have LOW gears... not high. Besides, tire diameter can make up for the lower gears.

I am biased.... I'd say get the burb!
That 71 blazer looks pretty nice.... but the burb looks like more of a real nice truck, rather than a 'beater'.

They all look better than what I was expecting! LOL I voted for the 70swb before I saw the pics. But after viewing the pics I would have a hard time choosing from the burb and the A/C Blazer.

Add in my $.02 for a total of $.04; GET THE SHORTY! What a cool truck! I'd buy it in a minute if it were closer...provided you passed on it.

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

I never remember what high and low gears are. I get em confused.

So,

4:10 = LOW
3:08 = HIGH

???

You're pretty perceptive Andy....... The fact that I already have a burb is the only thing pushing me away from the 68.

Just found it a couple weeks ago. The guy has about 15 different trucks including a cool 70 ramp truck with a sleeper on it....

Something like that, . The 68 has 3.73's with a 33" tire. 72 had 3.73's with 30 inch tire. The 72 is the most optioned of all of them and has unique paint color. I was originally going to get the truck, but with 4 in the family I think I need more room.

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

I would personally choose the 71 blazer. I like the four speed. It has a good original look and seems to need very little work, of course after seeing your other build threads, I doubt you could resist a few personal changes!

Second choice would be the 72 blazer. Air conditioning is always good, plus the wife would probably like the automatic better!

Third would be the pickup.

Fourth would be the burb. It would feel bad when it see's your other burb and I don't think you would want that!

Good luck on making a choice.

john

ps-----what is in the middle of the hood on the 72 blazer?

A Ram head hood ornament off of a dodge truck with a spear through it........ The original owner has all kinds of crazy things of this blazer..... homemade alarm, hood lock, 3 gas tanks, 8 track play (it works and has a Marty Robins tape in it! ).......

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

Marty Robbins is a plus!!

I've got a 72 blazer with air conditioning. I never use it because I leave the top off all the time. Either one of the blazers would be a good choice.
Choose the 72 if you want to personalize it. Choose the 71 if you want to leave it the same.

The shop truck---well, you can always build one next time.

Suburban--I'm just not a fan of the 67-68's. I like the air grabbin hood on the 69-72's.

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

I would do the 72.Mainly because it has air and your family will not be happy in the truck in I'll-be-a-tirkey without air.And as we all know "If momma ain't happy ain't nobody happy!"

I think that makes the most sense, more room than the truck and I already have a Burb.....

We'll only be here until next summer, but will probably be moving back to the south, so the A/C is a plus.

Re: Need help picking a daily driver......

The four speed Blaze is sweet, but the auto one has shag on the dash, so I'd have to go with that. IF your lookin for a nice daily beater though, that little SWB would be your best bet. I use mine as a daily, at least until the ice hits, and I have a blast with it. And I wouldn't touch that one. It's perfect.
