How Long Have You Been Driving 67-72s?

1982 for me and I just talked dad into giving me the title to the 1967 that he's owned since 1968. Working on the frame up restoration with it now.

Been driving since 1994 but have been enjoying riding since around 1982 I have only driven and ridden in one my whole life and that is the one I am currently restoring from the frame up with a couple updates here or there I think my Great Grandfather would like what I am doing. He bought it Brand new in 1971 with a camper atop of it. The camper is long gone now but the truck has had many roles since then farm truck / high school driver and I know at least two people in my family that has met thier wives in this truck. (My uncle and I) So as far as ever getting rid of it that isn't an option. The rodsteration is including a 402 .30 over a th400 and gearvendors od with a airride system (for comfort 3/4 tons ride rough)

Only since May, August really. I only wish I had gotten this truck on the road sooner, I have an ear to ear grin every time I drive it. I can't wait for cruise night tonight!

My first ride, in a 67-72 was my dad's 72 blazer in 1974

20 years later I bought my first 67-72, a 70 p/u in 1994

10 years later I bought my 5th 67-72, a 72 blazer in 2004

Wonder what attracted me to wanting a 72 blazer

got my 72 when i was in high school from my stepdad in 1998. drove it 4 years, tore it apart and its gettn put back togeather now. cant wait. sometimes i kick myself for doin it. but i know it will be worth it in the end.

It's hard to remember that far back, but I think I drove my first one somewhere around 68 or 69. My dad bought a nice low mileage 69 GMC when I was in high school. That was either in 71 or 72. I drove it as much as he would trust me with it back then. We lost my Dad several years ago and I inherited the truck. I guess I've had it at least 18 years now, and my youngest son is now driving it to high school. I hope it's still in the family for many generations after I'm gone.

Now you are going to find out who of us are real old. I bought a 1969 Blazer in about 1974. It was my first. Since then I have owned about 4 Blazers and at least 10 trucks. This thread got me remembering and I went back a got out a picture from about 15 years ago. These were the trucks I had at that time. I would sure like to have them back, especially the black one in the back. It was a 1972 Cheyenne Super, short wide, tilt, tach, a/c, factory buckets, and factory black black. It also reminded me a weird truck I had. It was a 1967 short step side that had the fewest options of any of this era trucks I have ever seen. The glove box door had like five listings on it. It had the base six cylinder engine, the color (blue), it had a dash pad (I believe that was government mandated in 1967), and the only two other things on the options list was radio DELETE and heater DELETE. Ah memories.

Friend of mines grandad had a 69 swb step.I rode in it in about 75 and fell in love with the body style.I bought my first in 80 and was given another in 93, then bought another in 95.I still have the first and the last of those.Some day I would like to own a 67-72 PU.Mine have all been Panels.

I think I have had my truck for 15yrs....give or take 1 or 2.....so that would make it around 15 yrs for me....

I got my 72 chevy in 84 from my grandparents, it was theirs, it had no Power steering so it was to hard for them to drive, so for my first car they gave me the truck , i remember when i was little riding around in it, so it also holds mush sentamental value to me as well

Bought my first 67-72 truck back in mid 70's. 72 2wd long bed, 307 4 speed. Wood floor rotted which I patched with some aluminum. Then bought a 72 Blazer with 350, 4 speed, lock outs and under dash a/c. My deer hunting rig. Bought my current 71 4x4 in mid 80's. Always wanted a 4x4 pickup. Was really rough when I bought it but nothing time and money couldn't cure. Didn't know much about 67-72 trucks then other than I liked the body style better than my '65 long bed. Found out later that '71 was first year for disc brakes as standard. Power steering was about the only other option. Since then have added the tilt column, original tow hooks, factory tach, after market bench with fold down center console, line-ex bed spray, under bed tank, new paint and sheet metal, dual exhaust, etc. etc. etc.....

My first ride was a 68 long step I bought at a ranch auction north of Cheyenne in 88/89. I had no intention of getting a truck, I went to the auction to buy some guns. All the local gun dealers showed up and drove up the prices. Money was burnin a hole in my pocket so I ended up with the truck. Painted it, swapped out the 292, and drove the piss out of it coast to coast while I was in the Navy. Totaled it a couple of years ago and bought a 'new' 68 here in TX. I love these damn trucks.

I drove a new '67 1-ton in the USAF....June, 1967. I drove a new '69 P-20 step van, in April, 1970......Bien Hoa, VietNam. I next drove a '69 C-10 SWB to tow a '55 Chevy 210 2-DR sedan that I had just bought (Sept. '74). Next time I drove one was a friends' dads '69 C-10, a one-owner with a 307, PG, etc. It was that funky pea green with matching interior. I shoulda bought it......$2500 at the time and I thought it was too high. So, later paid more money for less truck.....twice in the same year (1999)!! Still driving the last one I bought....Halloween, '99. I didn't like the way mine rode/drove, until I lowered it and rebuilt the entire suspension. The original 2000-lb coils on the rear may have been good for towing a 25-ft travel trailer, but they make a SWB ride like a sled.

First one I OWNED and drove was a 67 C-10 long step 250 3 on the tree no power anything but with an AM radio, this was 1976. Hated it. Bought a 64 ElCamino after that. Pop had a 69 GMC 2500 250 3 on the tree Utility truck in '78 (we used for work) but his last company truck was a 72 C20 Custom deluxe, 350 Auto, coils w/ helpers, and factory tool box door. that was '77. that one rode nice. Fast forward to 1991. Went to an estate auction, lots of junk and old cars. bought a 400 small block for $10.00 that was in the back of this beat up 71 C20. No one bid on the truck. After the auction was through they went around again to bid on stuff that no one bid on the first time. A 69 Suburban went for $50.00. Bid against the guy who got that and got the C20 for $90.00. It had 2 flat tires, no battery, etc. Went home, got a battery, two tires, fresh gas. Started right up. turned out to be a Cheyenne with factory A/C, auto, 350. What a scarey ride home that was (only 4 miles) Wound up fixing it up enough to drive for a couple of years as a 2nd car, but never got it painted. Went through a slew of parts trucks, tow truck, blazers, suburbans, built the 72 K10 I still have, took the engine out of the C20, sold it as a project truck. Ironically, I have the dam thing BACK, 10 years after I sold it (that's another long story) Mean time built a 72 K25 GMC plow truck in '99 (Still have)

Bought my 1968 CST SWB in Spring of 1984 from the 2nd owner. It's red w/white top, CST package and factory A/C. I still have it, although have had it repainted and added a 4 speed trans to it. Hardly ever drive it now, but she has been back and forth to MA from Oklahoma 2 times and even towed one of my Corvettes back in 1987. One of my winter projects is to put back the 3 speed on the column. Thank God I saved all the pats and pieces when I did the conversion so many years ago. Am amazing machine and she always gets looks when I take her out.

Bought my first in 1980...72 Blazer for $500. rusty but we had a blast with it. Have owned quite a few over the years, currently have a 68 4x4 nearing paint (frame off). The old 70 in the picture keeps on going, even with loads this size (frame was bottomed on the axle) we only drove about a mile and a half with that load!

I have had mine since 1994 when I got out of high school my dad gave it to me as a graduation gift but that truck has been in the family since 83 or 84 still have the truck last time it ran was 5 years ago when I brought my son home from the hospital it has sat ever since .... Too may other projects like the blazer had it 5 years now and have not done much to it..

First drove my grampa's farm truck (67) in 70 or 71 on the farm. Bought my first (70 Burb) in 83. Second one was a 69 short step with 250/3 speed Holley 2 barrel, header with duals and glasspacks. Man, I loved the sound of that truck when you let off the gas. Currently have a 70 K5 with the 250-gonna do duals and a header on it.
