Re: My Nightmarish Project
ill have to get a video camera or get some to take alot of pictures really fast.
After i get her running at her best ill do a burn out right before i put new tires on it. Problem is i still need to name her. My black c10 was black mistress (my friend scott called her scotts hero). From the beginning arounfd here the project was called hero 2 but she really needs a name. One funny name i just hought of was "burn out sally" (i like to name my cars) The chevelle on the other hand named her self. Because on the front core support it was stamped in the steel "ELAN" which is short for eleanor. (or atleast that what i think) |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
After realizing my lower balljoints were bad. My step dad said "why not remover the lower a arms from the c-10". I thought this was a good idea so I proceeded to remove the intire front end from the black c10 cause when it was driveable it used to drive like a dream.
So this morning I when out and remove the front end STILL sick mind you. After remove the front I dragged it in side and once again almost feel down from exhaustion. (This being sick stuff is for the birds) If I get more energy ill go back out side and take apart the front end the rest of the way and examine the lower ball joint tom make shure everything is good and if the arm isn’t to rust cause the frame on the black c-10 was trashed. (Canada truck) I found one spot on the one lower a arms that had a hole not in the main framework it was in the support for the bushing. Sometimes I think just replacing the one in the truck would be easier, But I d still have to take it to a shop and get it pressed in and then aligned and with only 88 buck in the account I don’t have much cash left. Also anyone got a quick home remedy for feeling like crap? |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
well got more energy after takeing way to many pills i felt great. So went out side put on the hood and washed the truck. Went for a quick test run and i had this real nice humming noise i was thinking rear so i wwnt to the shop took cover off and to my surprice I could swear the rear was new its very black and wont rub off only a little bit of mettal shows on the teeth and no metal flakes at bottom. (any ideas?)
The humming my also come from the front end being all out of wake it needs a tow in the front end does this if looking from front / \ . Still not shure if it really needs a ball joint the front end turns nice slowly but at 85 truck very loose with alot of play. I might tkae it to my mechanic and have him do the front end work hes cool and hell let me pay him of through time. It wont be no more the 300 i think. Also i dont have the inspection plate cover on maybe the flexplate spinning could cause that noice. Also have really bad tires Come on some help me on this stuff Last edited by Srubydo1986; 03-13-2007 at 02:38 PM. |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
Found the tranny leak, its not the fill tube it the detent cable. Need a rubber seal didnt have one on it from GM, so their fault for not saying nothin.
Problem is I know im goingto lose even more fluid when i unscrew this part. Ill put a catch pan under it and reuse the fluid cause its not but 5 days old.

Re: My Nightmarish Project
Good news I just made a deal with a junk man, If he gets any old chevy cars or truck that he needs to tow away he needs to let me know.
Know for the bad news he told me of one story og and older 50s style chevy pickup longbed that he was selling and the guy would give him only 100 bucks for it. The guy did offer 500 but it was worth much more so the tow guy rapped a chain around the truck to the frame and over she goes. One recored lose of a very valuable truck. (hence why i made a deal with him i will not let another truck of that valuw be destroyed or crushed)

Re: My Nightmarish Project
Instument panel has been taken apart and cleaned up (bulbs were blown). Only one electrical problem left and that the cargo light not working, but im not worried. Also for some werid reason my tranny just stopped leaking for the H&!! of it i guess. (yes it has fluid)

Re: My Nightmarish Project
Well I took the truck out for a quick spin even if its not in registered yet I need to see what might be wrong with her.
I drove her o id say 5-7 miles to my local mechanic and ask him when he might be able to take a look at the truck and repair whats wrong. He took a quick look of it real quick and side i need cantrol arm bushings upper and tie rod ends . Problem is iv never done frontend stuff so I learned how easy a front upper balljoint is (a cantrol arm bushing) is to fix, but how difficult is a tie rod end to replace. Any help on both parts would be great. Also my oil psi is near 0 when in my old truck the engine would put out 30 so whats wrong there cause i know shes pumping oil.

Re: My Nightmarish Project
ttt
Also look like i might finally get this truck put in my name. After about of month trying to get ahold of the guy i bought it from he finally is going to help me out. (cause he has to go to dmv to for one of his cars) All i need from him was to say he didnt want/have interest in the truck. why because he but his name at the wrong spot on the title and he never put it in his name. (So dmv wont be nice to me) Still have a tranny leak and belts still keep breaking but all in all its one fun truck. Ill try and get a video camera to finish burn my tires off so guys can see what this truck has.

Re: My Nightmarish Project
took the truck out for her first drive. It was about 100 miles. I found that truck ws going to need a u joint it also need some more tranny fluid.
Also im have one issue i cant figure out. My power steering goes from easy to stiff from time to time the belt is tight so what could it be the pump which as been working fine in my last truck or the gear box that i have no idea what it like in side. The gear box does have a small leak that need to be stop could this be my problem. Before inspection i need tires and that about it then shes done. maybe cats but im going to true and get passed by a friend i mean it is a 10001 gvw so no emissions.

Re: My Nightmarish Project
Sruby,
Sorry I can't help on your PS problem but I just want to say this; I just sat here and read your entire thread (Well, I did read up until you were waiting to get the 4X4 then forgot to return). I gotta say you are one helluva worker. Not too many people have the drive you showed on this project of yours, and hats off to you !!! I once had drive like that but it drove off a (few) years ago. I'm hoping to get back on my project of 4 years next month but I still have quite a bit to do yet. But like you I will be able to sit back when done and say " I built that truck ALL by myself " ....... Now, Post some pics of this beast finished !!!

Thx for the complaiments. I try and do the best i can and if i can figure it out i find some one that done it before and learn how. Plan to go to school for automotive but that harder then once thought.
I will have pictures up soon going to try and get my digital camera up so it wont be a polaroid a dolloar a picture isnt very fun. Because my truck is done i now have me first project again. Its a 1970 chevelle 2 dr that me and my dad bought back in 2001 but in 2002 my dad passed away and i started the restore in 2004 the car is in many peices and nower near done. But i have every part to make the car an ss the motor is a 350 bored .30 and a manual valve body th350. the rear is still the stock 308 10 bolt. ill get some pictures of that soon as well. Hope my writing wasnt to hard to read.

Re: My Nightmarish Project
It wasn't too bad, I have gotten use to it.
Sorry to hear of your Dad, The Chevelle would make a nice tribute to his memory. Lots of luck on that project. Here is a pic of my first ground-up back when I could move like you ! 70 Formula, Had a blown 400 with turbo 350 when I got it. Here it sports a little 455 HO with a B&M turbo 400, I also seen the speedo point to the 160 a couple times..... Ya gotta love those old mussel cars.... Again good luck on your Chevelle and work safe ! I'll be watching for some pics... Cya Round

Re: My Nightmarish Project
I promissed some chevelle pictures so here they are ill get the truck here soon.
THe engine is a 350 bored .30 and has 69 corvette heads (double hump). I will be removing it again to go back throught it cause it been sitting for about 2 years and id rather have it yellow. And heres the body soon (hopefully) be painted and redone in black and white strips with a canvis top. It has a th350 with manual valve body and a 10 bolt rear. I might start a thread? biuld on it if everyone would be cool with seeing a car build on a truck site.
