My Nightmarish Project
Ok this is going to be a little long,
I originally bought a 1986 chevy c10 2wd lwb from my uncle for 750 bucks. It had a 305 with granny tranny after some time the fork on the tranny broke and while i was there i replaced the motor with a 350. Well after i was done the rear axel started to jurk so that gone went looking for a rear axel. A friend told me about a 1986 siverado 2wd lwb automatic th350, tilt colum, crusie control, 2 gas tanks, and with a perfect body. But it had no motor and the tranny was cracked around the bell. The guy want 300 bucks for it, I didnt even hagal with him the body was well worth it. The truck was rust free except for a small spot on the cab corner pass side. i still wish it was 4x4 only cause it comes in hand from time to time. Right after i bought that truck anther friend found a 1980s seria classic 4x4 lwb manual with a body that has seen a better days. The guy says the driveline is in great shape but it sat for 3 years in the woods with a boat attached. All he ask for the truck was to remove the truck and the boat. So My projet is this take the siria clasic frame and undercarrage put the siverado on top of that frame put my c10 motor in it and that the manual tranny out and put a prevously aquired 700r4 with shift in it place. The sirrea has a moto but unknown to it condition and the c10s 350 is HO and burn rubber to no end. Wish me luck I'll have pictures up soon of all 3 trucks but i still need to get one the seria class cause of the ground has been to soft to reteve it with out detroying the mans yard. |

Re: My Nightmarish Projet
im going to build one good 4x4.
The only thing is i have to hope and prey the tranny tunnel from the automatic siverado will be tall enough for the 4x4 mechanics to fit. if not it called a body lift. (I hope) Last edited by Srubydo1986; 01-28-2007 at 11:17 PM. |

Re: My Nightmarish Projet
I hope the 700 R is a 4X4 trany. If it is a 2 WD the output shat will have to be replaced with on from a 4X4 700. other than that I think you will have a awsome truck.

Re: My Nightmarish Projet
Well i got a chance for some pictures so i thought id post them but bear with me i dont have digital camera so they are all polariods.
this is my first truck and the c10 the motor is coming from. Ill try and get a pic of it complete it was a good looking to to start with no rust in door or fenders some in cab and some in bed. The motor in th c10 its from a 1989 gmc jimmy k10 series ( the full size) that truck was perfect not one thing wrong with it but i fliped and totaled that one (and yes i kick my self in the a%@ for that one) the next couple pics are of the 1986 siverado the truck i bought only for ther body (no motor and trans cracked) And that last pic is of the dash id take a pic of the full inside but it was full of cluter from tool and such ull get a pic once its done cause that wont change much (and yes the truck does have a clock i forgot to mention that earlier) The frame truck isnt here yet which is holding me up on the build. We had one idea for cab removal used a big oak tree branch to tie to. My other idea what get 4 jacks and alot of blocks and put the jack on the blocks and go up from that. Do a stage lift go up tell u cant go up any higher then put block under cab. remove jack add a block put the jack back and so on. |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
just a word of advice, get your chassis ready before you pull the body from the donor truck. i've had more than one project die because i got carried away in the disassembly stage, and burned myself out on the project.
divide the entire project into "sections" and complete one section before moving on to another. it'll make the whole project go way smoother. |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
My idea for the sections was get the donor 4x4 body of it all scrape and not needed. After that the frame will me cleaned of rust and paint all break line will be replaced along with the fuel lines.
After all cleaned up the new motor tranny and axels will go one the 4x4 donors frame. Causr i wanted a auto trans it has manual the motor has sat for 3 years will be rebuilt but not for this project got a 350 in my c10. The axel are 1 ton 14 bolt axels and those are gone i dont need 4: any thing i have a set of 6 lug 3/4 ton anyway. After frame is ready the cab goes on and set up then bed then frontend. After that it all the little thing interior and so on. Pics of the donor 4x4 will be soon the guy i was going to tow it wanted 60 dollors for a 5 mile drive. Talked him down to 40 so that good enough i guess (never gonna use him again). |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
OK i finally got the donor 4x4 truck. So i start the tear down of the truck I had to remove the carpet and to my surprise the po redid the carpet but he did it with aftermarket pepboys carpet. and he replaces the old padding with house insulation. (no photo) But i get all the housing and braket removed inside the cab to make life easy when removale would start.
I first desided it would be best to remove the bed cause it the easiest to remove. After the bed was remove i toko a look at the frame. (photo) After that was completed i then removed the front end all of which was allso easy bolt location are on at the bottom of fender near door. The next one is befind the door if you open it u can see it. last for the fender is on top under the hood cant miss it. Then i had to remove the bolt the hold the radiator support to the frame. (im only doing the bolt location for help not to make people feel dumb sorry if it does). (photo of front clip and bed ) Now a photo of just the front end no front end I then prosseded to remove the cab it bolt location are two in the rear and two underneath were your feet go. You can only get those out from underneath no nut on top. Well for me they didnt come out as easy as i wished so for the rear bolt i raised the cab a bit to expose the bolt and cut it with a saws all. For the front bolt to remove them i had to go from above. Luckly i didnt need the cab and it was rusted through. I cut out around were the bolt is and cut all the supports the were leading to it. (making a big square in the floor around it) To remove the cab i did a stupid way to do it by my self i just picked it up and fliped it off the frame it didnt seam to wiegh the 500 lbs people were telling me. (Photo of cab sitting next to frame upside down u should be able to see the hole in the floor) And here is a shot of just the frame and the motor with trans. the frame is going to be sanded and primed the rubberized with bed liner. All lines will be replaced and duel tanks will be mount to frame. After i sanded about half the frame My back hurts so i think ill rest for the rest of today then get started again monday. (all u see above was done by myself with no help i sugjest u get help cause im paying for it know and my back hurts) (also this was done in 2 days not one) O and for the one ton which is the 4x4 donor it had 14 blot rears (not using) and granny fourspeed with t case (not using) and a 350 (not using) The springs are worn out but i was goiing to use them tell i can buy new ones. But one of the rear spring of the 8 are broken it not in between the bolt that hold the rear in so i should be ok i hope. Last edited by Srubydo1986; 02-11-2007 at 07:11 PM. |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
I have deside to leave the truck a manual its easier and it cheaper. I dont have to buy anything to make it work. No confuseing linkage setups and will last much long. My c10 was a manual and i loved it. In the picture above it shows a granny 4x4 trans in the frame my c-10 has the same tranny only 2wd and loved every shift.
Sorry about the slow update with all the ice it kinda hard plus becaue of me hurting my back i think the ice storm was god way of say u need to reset u did a dumb thing Last edited by Srubydo1986; 02-16-2007 at 02:22 AM. |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
WOW nice work you got done there. That should make for one heck of a truck when done. I am a big fan of a manual trans any ways. nothing like shifting your own! So which cab is goign on the 4x4 frame?

Re: My Nightmarish Project
the entire body of the brown truck cause it has no rust in the whole truck. The brown truck is auto console. with cruise. When dont it will ne a manual cab. no cruise (only cause i dont think i can have cruise on a manual) and it will have a hydrolic clutch insead of the mecanical. All I have the parts need to do it jus have to measure for the cylinder for the clutch pedel.

Re: My Nightmarish Project
As far as the peddel i think that there is a dimple or somthing for it. you will also need the brake peddle from the 1 ton. and you will need to modify the tunnal since it is a 4x4 frame and a 2wd chassie or so i have been told.
were you able to find a complete picture of the black c10? good luck

Re: My Nightmarish Project
Well it appears that I have bit off more then I can chew. With a mishap with the donor 4x4 and the original own. Let me explain I got the truck from a man that has had this truck on his land for 3 years and he wanted it gone. He sent the owner a certified letter to him stating that if the truck isn’t move in one month it will be removed well one month passed and no answer. Were I come in I removed the truck and had plans to use the truck to make my truck 4x4. Because I want going to use the cab I want worried about title problems when done it was all in the cab is were the DMV looks around here anyway. After I got the truck I started the disassembling the truck to start the Build after removing all the rust and removing the intire body the guy shows up saying he wants his. Turns out that the truck has been sitting in this guy yard for some time waiting for a paint job from the guy that owned the house it would be payment for some work done around his house. The thing I don’t understand is why what 3 year before saying anything.
What it basically is from what I can tell he wasn’t worried about it tell someone else wanted it then it became his first priority. I plan to hive him back what he want to try and make this right but his body is all ready trashed which might be ok sent he want it for another one of his truck for part and the body was all rust. So that has been my birthday gift a big headache from a guy that has now screwed over 2 people. I’m hoping everything turns out right all I know is I’m not pay anything for this mishap because it wasn’t me the home owner said it was good to take. So I have given up on making a 4x4 out of my no rust 2 wheel drive instead I’m going to put my motor from my black truck in it and build a stout th350 for the stout motor that I have already built. And yes I do feel bad for the guy that this truck does belong to ill give him all what I have back. And what missing he'll have to talk to the homeowner cause he already took the hood from it and put it on his son’s truck. The homeowner put a bent hood on it. The homeowner also took the tailgate and some motor parts. Well see what happens. (What info I said is what I know thus far) all I know is if he want his truck part that are good back he can take the crap metal with him. I already paid 40 for a tow and know I don’t get to keep what I towed. O wells that life I guess. Last edited by Srubydo1986; 02-21-2007 at 12:34 AM. |

Re: My Nightmarish Project
Well i got the motor out of the c10. It was out of the c10 before and i had someone ask me if you took the time and removed the motor why did you not paint it before putting it in. Well this time i took that into consideration, I painted all the brackets as well with bed liner paint it gives a durable tectured look. heres some pictures for yea.
The motor is pritty much stock is a 1989 tbi motor so it has the caty corner bolts it been changed to carberated and all edelbrock. Take a look anyquestion just ask. Last edited by Srubydo1986; 03-01-2007 at 11:54 AM. |
