OK We have been working very hard getting the cab and doors ready for paint. We sprayed yellow Saturday morning and ran out of time to spray the white.
You can see were he started color sanding already.

I finished the rear end rebuild on Saturday also. It included all new bearings gears, seals, brakes, and a new Eaton Posi unit.
We should have the cab back on the frame by the end of next weekend (I hope)

thanks for the pm. i am hoping to do my truck in a very similar paint scheme. i will be just a shade darker on the yellow though. i have been planing the paint for about 3 years now. i guess i can see yours & get a idea of how mine will look too!!.except mine is a swb. do you have any plans going to goodguys this year?? the truck is really looking awsome!

I guess I should get my name changed.
My first truck was a BB long bed but even that one got the SWB conversion.
The yellow is as close as we could come to the original light yellow 525(grapefruit) as we could come, it's a match color because they did not have a formula for it.

Anyway this one is a SWB.

And you are welcome to come and see it...

Could you please give some more details and pictures on the Summit fuel cell that you used, what you did to get it to fit, and also the intank pump that you said you installed. I'm still looking for affordable alternatives to custom aluminum fuel cells. Thanks.

I got the tank with the truck, it was brand new so it did not cost me any extra. It is this tank http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku
The pump is from tanksinc.com
I'm using a corvette regulator external filter with bypass return.

So to make it fit I sealed the fuel cell filler opening and moved the level sender to the front of the tank to clear the bed support. I cut a new hole for the pump and tray and bolted it together.

The tank fits well turned sideways. I biult straps top and bottom to support it.
I also had to pay for the filler neck to be welded on even though I probably could have done it myself.

I have almost as much in this conversion as it would have cost for a fuel cell guy setup, but like I said I had the tank already plus I have a tig welder and just enough skill to be functional, so I have to justify my purchase of the tig welder and do as much as I can myself...

I know the aluminum tanks are pricey but after all the time and money I would have been better off with a FCG setup.

Sorry for the late thank you. I just remembered something I was going to ask you. What did you do as far as baffling/fuel slosh? Most of those fuel cells do not have any internal baffling. I've seen some in-tank fuel pump kits with a "sump tray" that kind of holds fuel around the fuel pump area. Or are you just going to make sure that you don't run it too low? I do not know how to weld aluminum so modifications as extense as yours will not be feasible by me.

I have actually been researching fuel tanks for quite some time now, and I think I know what I'm going to do. I found this tank at Tanks INC. that has nearly the perfect dimensions and the price is reasonable.

Update time!!!
I did the brake pedel mod to give myself some extra room, and I modified the E brake pedel to clear my speakers. I also put in the wiring harness and started laying out my tail pipes.

Time for another update:
1. The bed is painted and getting color sanded and buffed today.

2. The instrument cluster is done except for indicator lights.
The inst panel is an old stock plastic bezel that I cut most of the center out of, I had a insert cut on a water jet. I painted the bezel with chrome paint and the insert with wrinkle paint. What do you guy think?

3. Wiring...

I'll have to post pictures of the bed later today the one I have is very fuzzy.

Some more pictures of the dash and the tail pipes are done.
Here is a down and dirty on the dash.
1. Bought a used bezel for $5.
2. layed out the insert in software (many hours), printed it out to scale and did paper dolls with it to verify the fit.
2a. find a place that could cut it out. I used a local guy with a water jet.
3. Gauges are Autometer traditional series, plus a dual air gauge (white face) the rest are oil, temp, volts, fuel level, clock, tach and electric speedo.
4. I cut most of the face out of the original bezel but left as much as possible.
5. grind down any part of the bezel face that sticks up.
6. Paint the Bezel with chrome paint.
7. paint the insert with wrinkle paint.
8. used two part epoxy 5min set, to joint the two pieces.
9. install gauges...

I did have to modify the dash for the two outer gauges...

Why did I go through so much to do this? I wanted a custom dash that looked stock and I hate the big center hole and how far apart the big holes are on a stock bezel, so made my own.

Nice setup with the dash! Looks very factory and a much better layout then stock. I am looking to do something similar.

You don't happen to have the CAD file for the cutout? I would want to layout the gauges different and sizes but the main outer part would put me a major step ahead.

I'll have to check the brand, it used the same tints as the regular paint, you just mix it and spray it. It really turned out nice and I will find out the system next time I'm at my painters place.
