Re: post 1/4 mile times

the sportsman tires arent in the best shape there not the sportsman pros just the sportsmans. Track was unprepped at little local track on a thursday night. i will be getting ethier some et streets or the et street radial but cant decide yet. Both should have good traction but ive hered mixed reactions.I know the truck has a lot left in it but the 60' and it being just a quick mild tune really killed the time. Were getting it dialed in and then when we go back we will mess with the jets.

Re: post 1/4 mile times

RicksRat, I appreciate the response. I actually am not to concerned with what it runs on motor alone, as long as its <13.99 so I can run in pro class this year and preen my skills a little. This will be my first time playing with N2o

It has an Eagle steel 4.25" crank in it, bored .040. I actually did the bore and line hone on it myself (with the help of a few skilled machinists... of course) while I was working at an engine shop my senior year of high school. I should be somewhere around 500 cubes. It IS the first motor I've ever built on my own from a bare block... so im a little nervous to spray the funny gas into her. But, I promised myself I wont ever go past 150 hp, and that is on 100 octane with adjusted timing and plugs - soley for the purpose of carrying the time slip around in my glove box. Hell Ill trailer the thing to CA if I need to for an 11 second slip.

Im suprised to hear such a jump in times from the bottle - most people I have heard from running in the 11-13 second range talk about a .5-.7 second improvement with a similar amount of spray.

djracer - Trailing arms? Hahaha.... I would love to have ever once had them on my truck - but im a 3/4 ton LWB to 1/2 ton SWB convert, my friend. Still has the stock half ton leafs in the back of the 76 I took the whole rear out of (basically got my 12 bolt for free). Not to mention a pair of broke-all-to-hell shocks. A friend of mine has built 2 4-links in some pretty nasty off-roaders, and if they can stand up to Nevada desert, I should be alright. Im looking forward to the tuneability of the 4 link setup.

Re: post 1/4 mile times

I love to see big block trucks running scary fast. But, I'd like to know what some 350 trucks are running too. I don't mean stroked or power adders either. I mean 3.48 stroke 350 naturally aspirated, balls out. Anybody have some numbers? I'm thinking my wife's truck is capable of low 14's at around 98 mph.

Re: post 1/4 mile times

Oddly enough, my first run was my best. 14.4 @ 97.86. Best 60' was a 2.5 Did 2 runs on 295/50/15 radials, and 2 on 285/70/15 radials. I thought the 285's would help me with the traction problem, but they actually felt worse.

I had a pair of slicks at my disposal, but we already had a broken Cobra Torino on the trailer. I got a little worried about bolting on the 28.5" slicks and breaking mine.

If I had more practice getting off the line with the 4-speed, I think I could break into the 13's.

P.S. -- Met up with franks72 there, he was putting out some good numbers, The time he beat me, he layed down a 13.8 @ 98.03. But he had drag radials, so I'll use that excuse

Re: post 1/4 mile times

New guy here.. Thought Id start off by posting some links to some things regarding my truck.

Here are pics of the build process to its current life giving fairly accurate info on the set up. I need to update this some time: http://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=644566

Here is a dyno graph overlay between the first heads cam package and the one that is in it now: http://73-ls1.com/63truck/new_vs_old.JPG

Here is a dyno overlay locked converter vs unlocked which is how it runs down the track: http://73-ls1.com/63truck/locked_vs_unlocked.JPG

Here is a quick video of it’s first test and tune track day. These runs are all motor right now: http://73-ls1.com/63truck/sac_10_27_07_low_res.wmv

As you can tell I am in to performance At some point I will start going through the truck making it look like something, but for now the goal is 11.9x on the motor and 10.9x on the bottle. I had 4 of these trucks at once so I kept the best of the best parts and the worst of the worst. What you see is the worst.

I hope you enjoy and if you have questions about the LS1/4L80E swap, I’d be more than happy to answer them. Now it’s time to look around some more and start asking questions in areas I need help

Hey -- thanks! still cool I'm already planning my approach for next spring. Some sort of slicks, either drag radials or full slicks are the only way I'm going next time. I don't think I can improve much on a street tire.

Re: post 1/4 mile times

What are you guys doing for front springs? I pulled some 17.5" springs from a late 80's 6 cyl cherokee today. They are just a little too light as it goes to the bumps. However, with what seems like 150-200lbs of force lifting on the fenders, I can lift it 6.5" with the shock set to 80/20. I'm searching for a set of V8 Grand Cherokee springs right now. From what I'm told on the 4x4 forums they have a little more spring rate to them.

I have a hard time with weight x-fer with the 1" lowering spring in it. I slapped some S10 springs in it today (650lb 14") and it's a touch higher than I want with a little more stored energy than the 1" lowering springs but nothing like the Cherokee springs.

I'm tempted to put weight jacks in with the 6cyl cherokee springs but I'm not sure how safe that would be for street driving ect..

Re: post 1/4 mile times

I have mustang II stuff on the front of my truck but I tried some moroso trick springs from a camaro on my old 71 street truck. They definitely help with the weight transfer but the didn't fit well in the pocket with the aftermarket lower control arms I had!
