retro68,
very good job!! it is looking terrific. i was wondering what is the "finish" that you applied to the truck body. it looks like primer, maybe tented?? i am wanting to paint my truck a very similar color. also do you do body work?? your "shop" looks pretty cool from the pics. where about are you??? in aj ??? i am in chandler... again great looking truck!! rodstored-72 |

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
Well I thought some front end and rear suspension pictures were due for this build. So here is what else has been going on in the shop. I am reaching the point of having to order the Wilwood 13" rotors front and rear so I can measure my wheel offsets and then order the wheels next. This is where it gets spendy and where we call 911 for the heart attack we all have while buying big disc rotors and custom three piece wheels. What the heck you can't take any off this stuff with you in the end so we might as well enjoy our trucks while were here. Beside's my coffin isn't going to the dirt hole in the back of some pimpy hurst. I want screaming tire's and plumes of blue rubber smoke for my last trip while I ride in the back with a custom painted box to match.

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
On to the back side. Thought the 12 Bolt would work just fine so I layed out a plan to shorten it 5'' and have the custom trailing arms reworked. A thanks out to Nathan @ Porterbuilt. Installed a new set of 3:73 gears and a new posi unit. The axles were custom made with a 4.5 bolt pattern to match the front Mustang II rotors. Lots of nice wheel choices to pick from with a smaller bolt pattern. Installed a fat curved torsion bar and thats about it for the moment.

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
Please tell me that is one with equal length arms! We have two at school, and the short/long arm setup is a pain in the ass on everything to get lined up.
But I still want one in my garage, who am I kidding? |

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
I have to admit I started these fender wells sometime a go and certain ideas that fall into the this should be easy to do coulmn end up in the oh crap this is going to get very involved. Thats when my green genie on the shoulder says get back to it later and then weeks can go by. So i spent today nailing down some progress to try and get this front end finished up. I am getting close to brakes, tires and wheels and suspension. This will be the huge hump to getting this truck back on it's feet. The wheel wells are raised over 1 inch and that may not sound like much but when you move one radius away from the other all kinds of gaps open up. The challenge is to make everything look clean and stockish when finished. The cutout along the wheelwell is for upper control arm clearence and to open up the engine compartment a bit. I used some 3/16 rod to trim out the edge and add strength. The other thing is a flower, just kidding!!! The drivers side has that bump so I made it go away. As I get farther I will put up the pics of the under fender lip contouring as it gets welded in. Thanks for following along. Scott

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
This is the front edge of the drivers wheel well. The lip had to be lengthend to make up for raising the inner fender.

Re: New build thread how time flys junior to future
so are you attaching the inner fenders to the backside of the rad. support, instead of on the bottom (like stock)??
