Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

I really like the idea of the trans temp gauge. Dont forget to check out the medium duty trucks such as C60's for a tach dash. Here is mine I pulled from a 74 C60 it had the factory air pressure gauge that I swapped out for a vac gauge.

Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

I haven't seen a factory tach for the trucks that have the gas gauge in it. That's sweet.

Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

I thought about putting in the camero speedo also but opted not to for several reasons, would have had to get real creative with the service engine soon, emergency brake, high beam and 4x4 lights. I am still going to have to remote mount the 4x4 light and have not come up with a clean factory look for it yet, any suggestions would be appreciated. if I remember correctly the camero speedo does not have any of the mounting tabs that line up with the tabs in the truck cluster, could have fabbed some but just didn't get to it. The donor camero cluster I had was only an 85mph speedo anyway. My 87 has the speed sensor in the speedo for the converter lockup and I was not sure the camero speedo would be calibrated the same. have to go out of town but am going to try to get around to finishing the project this weekend.

Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

I scored a Camaro V-8 tachometer and gauges for $5 at the local JY last weekend.

I went looking for an extra truck gauge mounting panel to build the new gauge cluster on yesterday and came across an 85 diesel 2-wd Suburban that had the factory clock, 100-200-240 water temp and an 80 psi oil pressure gauge so I snagged them and their sending units. I haven't tested the clock yet to see if it still works but I will get it fixed if it doesn't.

Now I just need to find a decent condition gauge carrier to start building my new cluster upon and get to work.

I retrofit the 145 speedo into my 83 Camaro. It made normal every day speeds difficult to read as they only filled 1/3 of the range. It looked really cool to have such a high mph speedo but in reality it sucked.

I've never seen the mid range 115 mph speedo in anything. Does anybody know what application or year range it came in?

I've had several with the 145, and if they don't they get one. I love them... in a Camaro anyway.

The 115 was used in the '89 IROC with certain engine/tranny/option packages. I think some '88 cars had them to. I can't remember for sure.

Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

awesome what all do you need to make that work I am building a show and drive truck I have a 100mph speedo with a 5500rpm tach but yours looks way cool

and if you need a 100mph speedo i will give you one because I know your truck is going to be going way faster than 85mph lol

can you build another one if I send you all the parts

Is there enough room to get the fuel gauge centered in the opening and clocked to match the tach?

Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

I have been tinkering around with the Camaro tach swap and came across a van fuel gauge that will fit into the stock truck oil pressure gauge position so you can keep the Camaro oil pressure gauge in the tach.

I still need to drill out a stock oil pressure gauge to sit the van fuel level gauge into so it can be secured in place with more than the back studs holding it in place.

Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

I messed around with the Camaro tach face and created a partial overlay to move the hash marks to the inside of the numbers so it more closely resembles the truck.

I also revised the redline and moved the RPM x 100 label to an area clear of the revised hash marks.

The first run modified overlay pic is a little dark. I couldn't get the lighting right and not have a bunch of glare on it.

I am in the process of making a full face overlay to make it look better when the lights are on. Right now the old hash marks telegraph through the paint and it is not all the same gloss level but it works.

I was able to modify the BRAKE warning lens and the SES lens to combine them together into the speedometer opening. I couldn't get the back lit pics of the warning lamps to turn out but you can just make them out in the cropped pic.

If you keep the truck speedometer you will still have the high beam indicators and a single spot for two warning lamps. The BRAKE & SES lights are what I chose to put there.

You could modify the 4x4 lens and put it into the dash panel above and between the tach & speedo or just fit the dash with a generic LED in that spot that you will know is for 4x4.

I think I am going to put the battery warning light back into the spot where I have the clock, maybe I will rework it to be both 4x4 and BATT.

Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

I like the look of the Camaro gauge needles after they have been painted orange. I think I am going to put them onto the truck speedo and the rest of the truck gauges so they match the Camaro tach & oil pressure gauge.

I didn't care for them when they were white.

Re: My camaro tach cluster-done!

I don't care for the moon gauge fuel level markings on the van fuel level gauge I found so I am going to make an overlay for it with the traditional E 1/2 F markings and replace the UNLEADED FUEL ONLY label with just a fuel pump icon.

I wish I knew how to change the sweep of the gauge to 180 or 270 degrees so it was more readable.

It is from an 82 to 89 Camaro.

Some truck gauge clusters shared a couple mount lugs for it but some don't. I took my old fuel level gauge from the donor cluster and cut out the mounting surface and fit the Camaro tach into it. Wrapped the Camaro mounting ears around the fuel gauge mounting face and crimped them in place. It is pretty secure but I am going to use some epoxy to fix it in place permanently.

Whatcha think??

How about updating your links so we can see them?

Is that clock orginal to the truck/cluster? I'm looking for one.

The clock came as an option on the trucks but I have found that most of the diesel trucks came with them so they are the place to look.

They also have a 240 degree water temp and an 80 psi oil pressure gauge.

The housing is different on the clock gauge package setups so you will want to grab the whole cluster to go with it. I tried putting it into a base model housing and the mount bosses were different.
