Re: Barn find resurrection

Still chipping away. I would like it on the road by the end of July.I'm still painting piece by piece and installing it. I got most of the front clip on and saw that me and Bud Wiser got the strip on the cowl to big. I'll have to re do it. I found out the hard way new bolt clips on the inner fenders are the only way to go. Installed new black carpet and painted a tilt wheel silver. I installed a red dash pad but dont know if I like it. might go back to black. Installed Red and black hounds tooth bench seat. Seams to sit to high so I,m going to lower the rails.

Started on the bed. Went from a complete bed to small chunks in a hurry. Loaded it up and will haul it to the sand blaster tomorrow.

They get none from me...that casting is very prone to cracking. Now the block...that's a good one...hang on to it!

Re: Barn find resurrection

I would hang onto the block if I could. It was what I had at the time and this project needed it. Who ever ends up with this pickup will have a good 4 bolt block that they can install better heads if they want.

Re: Barn find resurrection

Very cool build. I don't normally like stripes like that, but those look really nice. Just be careful of Bud Wiser, he's not your friend when it comes to painting!

Re: Barn find resurrection

I have a bad habit of trying to make things to perfect. So I never get things done. I thought Bud Wiser would help things move along. It did help things move along. Now I need to repaint the cowl. As for useing strips, I hope I didn't screw up by making them to wide. ==Do you think I should run the stripe into the grill and paint it silver? How about Red? How about Black?? Or Origional?

Re: Barn find resurrection

Today I sent the bed parts off to be sandblasted. Tonight after work I straightened the grill. This has been very time consuming. So instead of polishing it out I decided to paint it black like the lower half of the pickup. I took the seat out and the tracks off so I can cut and lower them this week.
This I don't get--When I went to install the driveline, it was to long. Same one that came off. Would lowering it 3 inches cause this??

Re: Barn find resurrection

Still chipping away.Finished rough install of the front clip. I still need to adjust the gaps.
Straightened the grill. Taking to long to polish, so I painted it black with the insert painted silver.
Installed the grill. Installed the tilt and tranny linkage. Hooked up some wires, added fluids and fired it up.
Go@#^#n tranny cooler line wasn't tight at the radiator and sprayed oil all over. Cleaned up and tried again. Turned onto the street and had all the lug nuts fell off the front wheel. I don't know why it stayed on. I used the wrong nuts for that mag wheel. Found a pin hole in the radiator spraying water on me while I put the jack under it. Real nice day. Took the radiator out and called it a day!!

After I pounded out the crushed area on the drivers side--filed==sanded- filed--etc. It became clear to me it was getting painted. I lucked out that the hood stripe falls right into the grill insert corner. So I painted it silver to continue the silver flow of the hood stripe. Thanke for the compliment..

Re: Barn find resurrection

So, you rebuilt that whole truck in like a week? I guess that's normal for you huh? I've been on my son's truck now for three months and it is still a pile of parts in the garage floor. I feel mentally retarded now. Thanks

It's for sure been longer than a couple weeks, and no it's not normal for me. I don't know why but the timing was good and things seemed to fall in place. You can't be retarded if you like these trucks. The body style is great and their easy to work on. Dennis

Re: Barn find resurrection

I put on a set of 18 inch wheels after work. Ordered my trany parts today. Took the cowl off and am fixing the stripes as we speak. I'm waiting between clear coats. It's getting dark in my (paint booth) gravel driveway.

Re: Barn find resurrection

Fixed the cowl stripe to line up with the door and hood
Didn't like my new 18 inchwheels with 50 series tires, so I took them back and ask them to put 60 series on. They were real nice about it.TALLER SIDEWALLS. They had to order them.
Got my radiator back and installed it tonight.
Put the pickup up on the hoist so I can remove the tranny to replace the pump seals.
