More pics!
Is that an external voltage regulator? Where do I get a new one or "glue" to hold the cover on? What does it do/what do I do with it?

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
I will organize all my bolts unlike the rest of the projects I've done. Although I am getting a hardware kit, but still, it helps to be organized.

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
Thanks, next on the list is fenders and hood, I cant decide to buy a cab or fix this one, it does give me a good reason to buy a welder though. Then I need to buy a gallon of paint. Then rebuild my front suspension. I hope to have this thing (cheap resto'd) and done by summer. My 68 will be the "nice truck," the 72 will be the farm truck/beater.
In other news, I found some Wheel Vintique smoothies that will fit my 2001 Jetta TDI I am getting this month. Only $500 for 4 16x8.5 dark green powder coated smoothies, then I'll get VW moons and trim rings. The tires will be another $500 I think.

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
Did that frame thing you bought come with a cab? So you are going for the old school look for your Jetta? It would look cool with some matte paint to mach the wheels.

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
Im about to pull my fenders off soon myself I sure hope I dont find that kind of rust on what looks like the side firewall as I dont think I could fix that myself.
Good luck and Ill be watching to see how you deal with it. From what Ive seen thats a walk in the park for most here who are far better craftsman than I. |

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
I'm just gonna fill it with bondo.
NO I'll buy a welder when I get some money together, that way it'll all be professional. Plus, I already know how to weld.

"An alternator or generator has a pulley on one side that is turned by one of the engine's drive belts; the force of the engine is therefore used to run the alternator or generator. Because the engine's speed varies during acceleration and shifting gears, voltage regulators are necessary to control the output produced by the alternator or generator. An excessively high voltage output, caused by the engine's higher speeds if the alternator or generator is unregulated, could send a surge through the system, overcharging the battery and damaging the car's electrical systems. A very low voltage output will fail to produce enough power to maintain the battery's charge and run the car's electronic systems, creating a load on the battery and potentially reducing the battery's life." - Quoted without premission from www.wisegeek.com They said it better than I ever could have! Re: Project 72' O'Blue
That explains everything! Thanks Richard! I'd get that one from you, but I think I'll go with an internally regulated alternator. What is a good size alternator? I'll be getting a serpentine system, if that helps.

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
I was running a powermaster 95 amp on my old motor, worked fine, kept the stereo going, till it stopped working. I am about to swap a 200 amp alt. into my bronco to power all the lights I have on the roof.

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
I was thinking about getting a 220 amp, it'll need to power...whatever I hook up to it.

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
That`s a shame about the rust. Not typical of a southrern truck. It`s from sitting back in the woods. Those trees will send sheetmetal back to the earth with a vengance.I`ve seen trucks from Texas and west rotted that way.

Re: Project 72' O'Blue
Yeah such a shame, we bought it from a painting guy, he let it sit in his yard for a few months after the rear killed itself. I wish he would have put a logo on it so I could leave the paint alone.
