Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Gave the engine a bath tonight. Green block and head, intake manifold has green, but the valve cover and inspection cover are blue. Someone had some time on their hands. The throttle return spring has yellow paint on it.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
The trailer has taken some beatings over the years. An old girlfriend walked to the back of the box while it was in storage in her carport, bent the rear panel and box side. Her neighbors thought it would be OK if their kids leaned their bike's against it. All my fault for not making enough money to have a place of my own. Those aluminum side steps are an attraction to people who HAVE TO TRY THEM OUT without asking first. I need to put reinforcing rods to help the box panel from flexing when they step onto them!
Welded patches over the corroded rear cab supports. Welded in patches for the missing frame section where the PO torched openings for the wider radiator he used. Is it ever easier to install a motor when there`s no sheet metal on the frame. My Welder/Generator. This is about the only thing my Dad ever approved me spending money on. He's got an 220V 50Amp extension cord coming out of his house to plug in if there's ever a power outage. He let's me store it at his house free, imagine that! LOL Remember the extra reinforcement that came on the Medium Duty cabs to support the front removable floor section............ Well it was held in with 14 bolts and then spotwelded.....Man does that leave alot of holes in the floor. Notice the extra spot welded bracket behind the clutch rod, this is a support bracket for the vacuum lines from the remote brake booster attached to the frame beneath the cab. There's also the vacuum manifold directly above it just below the master cylinder. There is also a pipe coming out of the rear drivers side cab mount for the Brake Booster Vent. The bracket is waiting for the scrap metal guy to pass by along with the original cracked exhaust manifold. It's a rust storm under this cab.

You're making some nice progress
Nice welder. I'd like to get a portable some day, but I really can't justify it since I do all of my work in the shop.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Captainfab, you can justify the generator part in case you run out of power. Any excuse will work, right?
Dinos63 The rotisserie works well so far. It's nice to be able to rotate the cab instead of your body and you don't get as much crap in your face!

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Well I can't get a clear shot but I upgraded all the wheel studs from 7/16" to 1/2". On my old 62 4WD, I snapped 5 of the six studs on the front axle drivers side while driving down the highway, hopefully the larger studs will prevent that from happening again. I used the same stud front and back, while the front went right in the rear axles had to be drilled. I'll change the outer axle seals while the axles are out. Not original but safety first.
I used Wagner BD61186.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Instead of taking a break today, I took 4 of them, almost. Started installing the new brakes today, ran all new lines. Front is complete but the rear hardware kit was wrong so I'll be ordering that Monday. Beautiful day here today, couldn't ask for better weather.

Uh Oh! Scrap metal guy passed and offered to clean the junk metal around the truck. I didn't take off the rear parking brake levers from the brake shoes before letting them go. Anyone have an after market part number?

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Saved the rad support off the C50 to compare to the C10-30. It's actually narrower by 1". The angle along the top where the two baffle plates that flank the hood support are different. The angle where the grill support bolts to is different. The depth of the cross piece where you mount it to the frame on the C10-30 is not at the same level as the C50. At initial glance one might assume the C50 rad support could easily be modified to convert it for C10-30 application but as a picture speaks a thousand words.....

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Cab is on the trailer ready to go for blasting! They'll be able to blast and rotate the cab on the trailer.
The 292 exhaust manifold has 3 studs to connect the exhaust pipe while the 250 has 2. Started hooking up the electrical to the rad support.

You must be having only part of the cab blasted? I hope he doesn't damage your glass.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Yes just the floor section, I'm worried about the glass as well. Thinking of cladding it with a moving blanket and a layer of aluminum coilstock.

Going to Hawkesbury to help load a 86 Buick, then off to St.
Lazare to pick up more truck stuff. I'll be back sometime in the afternoon. The hood and grille are here for you to pick up anytime. Norm

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
What my friend that does blasting does to protect glass. He first completely covers the glass with masking tape. Then he completely covers that with 2 layers of thick high quality duct tape. The purpose of the masking tape is to facilitate removal of the duct tape. I don't know as he has ever had an issue with damaged glass using this method of covering. It does take some time though.

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Truck came back from the Soda Blaster today. He didn't use soda though, alot of crap to take off. He put what he called " Blasters Tape" to protect the windshield. Nice job, now I can see all the holes. LOL

Re: aerotrukII,3&4
Ok start with the BAD metal
Cut it out! Fabricate a new piece! Cut to fit, a little off the top and a shove to the side. Nice fit. Since I'm waiting for the kick panel to come in I'll weld this in after the kick panel has been installed. Another piece I need now is the inner fender support on the engine side of the cab, the C50 support is longer and lower! Passenger side, like a glove. My new little stick/tig welder. With the wind blowing today I'm using stick. Now you see it, now you......
