Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Well came back from the zoo and crashed out on the couch. Woke up and had to take some sheetrock back to Lowes and had to get some primer to go under the red so went and did that. While I was out I stopped and got a heater core. Might as well change that while it's easy and on the bench. And I also stopped by a friends shop to check on my control arms for my blue and white truck. Also picked up supper from Zaxbys on the way home. Just got back. I'm gonna eat me some grub and then work on the power cab harness and the power mirror harness soldering and heat shrinking some cut wires. I also rode by my shop and picked these up. Had them for a while waiting on this project to start

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
That's not the center console that's going in there. I have a cup holder console that's going in there that's the same as that console. The one in the truck now was just easier to get to at the moment. Also the seats aren't mounted yet so I can't take pictures of how they're mounted lol. Before the questions start about the mounting thought I'd get that outta the way. When I get them mounted up I'll be sure to take pics for everyone
also on a side note I have been tossing around the idea of painting the power mirrors body color because they mount to the body and not the corner of the window like the later trucks do. What are yalls thoughts on that?? |

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
I'd go body color on the mirrors. Just personal preference though. Sweet looking seats.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Thanks for the opinion on the mirrors. That's the way I'm leaning too. Just don't want to paint them and they look akward. Also the seat are out of a 99ish fullsize extended cab truck I think. The interior is going to be tan with dark brown as the accent color. I'm gonna cover the dash in dark brown vinyl and the carpet will be dark brown. The seats will be tan vinyl with dark brown cloth, probably suede, inserts. The door panels will be tan with dark brown cloth inserts to match the seats so probably suede there too. The carpet on the doors will be dark brown to match the floor carpet. And the rest of the trim and center console will be tan. The insert on the console will be dark brown also. I do custom upholstery for a living so the interior is going to be a breeze. I'm also laying som FatMat down in the cab and inside the doors to help keep the road noise down. Another thig I'm doing is changing all the weatherstripping in the doors and the jambs so it's nice and tight. Laura doesn't know about all that yet but when I tell her it'll help to not sound like an old truck she'll be fine with it

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
I think body color on the mirrors looks good but if it is a driver they always end up getting rock chips and then they don't look so hot.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
They unbolt and unplug. I can always repaint them. I appreciate the thought of the rock chips though. I didn't think of that but on the other hand the front of the truck will get rock chips too so it's cool I guess and on top of all that it IS just a driver so it's cool. And it's gonna be used as a truck so if it gets banged up so be it lol.
Also just FYI there a couple of dings in the roof and the bed that I'm gonna try to work out but im not gonna break the bank on bodywork. I just want a respectable looking truck. |

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Thanks OJOE. I don't know whether I'm gonna keep the headrests or not. We'll see when the time comes to recover them. Do you have some pics of how you mounted them so I can get and idea of what needs to be done. Thanks man

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Really..... I happen to have an immaculate set of black leather full power seats from a 98 or so Tahoe that may just be available. Same style as in Chucks pics. Just a FYI......

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
I think it's gonna be nice and classy combo with the dark red and tan on the outside and dark brown and tan on the inside. I just want something that'll do it's job like it's supposed to and look good and clean doing it and not care if it gets hurt in the process. I don't want to have to worry about getting upset if it gets banged up or scratched up or anything. My wife is probably going to be driving it back and forth to baby doctor appointments and I'm gnna use it as a truck, so it'll probably get banged up lol

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
They make clear protective film these days to help stop rock chips. We are seeing tons of cars in the shop these days with it across the hood, front of the fenders and on the mirrors. I've even seen some cars with it being used as door edge guards. Just a thought to prevent rock chips after painting.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Good idea. You have any idea where I can get some stuff like that. I'd defnitely be interested in some of that to go on the front of the hood edge and the mirrors.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Looks like you have your hands full Check. Stay focused and don't lose your momentum! I think it will look nice when you get it all buttoned up. Color combo sounds like it will work well together.
I still say run a round light front end. I got your brackets sitting here boxed up, whenever you are ready.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
I'll be working on it tomorrow morning scuffing it up and getting the little bit of body work done to the jambs so I can paint them up. We're remodeling our kitchen in the middle of this so I have to clean up some of my mess with that tonight and then I'm gonna work on the harnesses so they are ready to go in tomorrow too hopefully. And I thought y'all would like my little updates every hour on the hour lol. I'm telling y'all it takes me 5 minutes to take the pictures, upload them to photobucket, and then post them on here. I swear I love this iPhone for that. My spelling sucks though because I have some fat digits and them and the keyboard don't see eye to eye sometimes lol

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Here's some light reading on the clear film stuff. You can look it over during morning coffee or something. Google "3m clear bra" and you'll get tons of hits.

Re: My Crewcab Shortbed
Ok got the power door harness for the cab and the power mirror harness all soldered, heat shrinked, and taped up and ready to go in the truck. That's all I'm doing for tonight. Don't feel like I got much accomplished but I did spend more than half the day at the zoo with my family and I loved that.
Tomorrow first thing I'm gonna start scuffing and some body work in the jambs and scuffing the firewall and dash. Them I'm gonna try and get the buckets and the console mounted. |
