Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Yes you can use carb cleaner, just make sure you get everything clean. You'll probably want to scrap off any large collections of gunk first...I usually use 2 or 3 cans to get a transmission that's been leaking clean. Then dust it well with baby powder and leave it alone. You'll find any leak easy that way.

If you've taken apart your speedo housing, you will probably need to check the indexing on it when you put it back in. If you didn't do this, recheck it.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

when i had a speedo cable leak, i was noticing huge spots of transmission fluid on my driveway that randomly showed up, from the pictures you posted it looked like the drips were coming from the exact place mine was when it was leaking from the housing, so id continue to check into that as well.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Ok, So in trying to replace the speedo gear housing I managed to push the entire gear into the tranny....How do I get it back out? Do I need to remove the back end? I know I have to remove the 4 bolts, replace that gasket to get the back part off but that about as much as I know....UGH!!! Im such a newbie

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

haha it shouldnt be a problem man, just either try to maneuver something in there to get the gear out or just drop the pan, your going to have to fill er back up with fluid anyway so taking the few bolts out and draining the rest of fluid wont make a difference.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

yeah it was a 350 and it fits pretty well...now to find the gear...About that...To replace the gear It would just pull straight out or would the transfer case have to be removed?

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

the plastic gear would just come out with the housing, you mustve just accidentally pushed it back in, so just get the little plastic gear out which shouldnt be a problem, pop the gear in the new housing, make sure its pushed in all the way, then screw the new housing to the end of the cable, then put it in the side of the trans, pop it in as far as it will go, it should pop a little as the o ring will hold it in, then put the retaining clip back on and fill it back up with the correct trans fluid, dexron, and you should be good.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

yeah 3 is good, it says on your dipstick, as long as its dexron your good the numbers are just the newer formulas, make sure its dexron on your dipstick and good luck, once you find the gear it should go pretty quick.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Any updates??? Also, if the plastic gear is worn, how will you know what plastic gear to replace it with according to the driveshaft size????? Are the O-rings accessible to local autostores (via. Autozone, Oreilly, Pepboys, Napa)?

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

I just bought a new Gear housing was cheap and fixed the issue...As far as the gear you can match it by color usually...but you can count how many points on it
