Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

has any used it? I have a small leak coming from the transmission pan but its weird....It only leaks sometimes...Its a slow leak after its been sitting for a while....i drove it to work today and it did drip a single bit at work....Now my driveway has a slight angle to it so i was thinking ok maybe i can just run this stuff in there and be good..

Any thoughts? Ideas?

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

If it were me i would just fix the leak and not risk clogging my transmission up. A pan gasket and few bottles of fluid is prob close to the same price of the stop leak.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

The Bars stop leak products are good in an emergency but for longevity purposes I recommend new seals front and back and a pan gasket. All depending on where the leak is coming from.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Well there was gunk every where and I cant find a leak what so ever....It isnt a consistent leak so I just wiped everything down and moved the truck to a new spot to see if I can see whats up... I just know it dripping somewhere over by the left front of the pan...Or at least that is where the spot is on the ground

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

hm. i had a leak like that coming from the tranny but it wasnt from the pan it was from the speedo gear housing. just showed up randomly and other times there was none. id suggest you just watch it for now and come back if theres any more questions or characteristics of the leak that you notice.

Ok well I found drips coming of the cross member that hold it up and thats about all i know...I couldnt see anything else but what about the speedo gear housing? Could the speedo wire have a cut in it and cause this or are you meaning where it connects it may leak? I havent seen it yet and it wasnt until this morning that it finally had a drip so its definitely hard to figure out

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

no the speedo cable doesnt house any oil, just where the housing goes into the side of the tranny on mine there was a bad o ring so it leaked. but when you have time, try and trace the leak back as far as possible, because it could be something dripping the fluid on the crossmember or what not, try and follow it as far as possible, maybe even start the truck and lay beside it with a flashlight or whatever and see if you can see it an action so you can follow it back some more, cause right now it could be anything.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Left front of tranny... probably selector shaft seal. Clean it off, take it up to a mall parking lot and do a crapload of Right turns. See if it aint coming from there.

Stop leak swells seals. The piston seals that engage your clutch packs will catch heck for using this stuff. I'd try to avoid it at all costs.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

this leak is driving me up a wall but now that im back in town i can look at it again this weekend...There is a nice spot on my driveway though...Does transmission fluid spread like crazy in small amounts? Its a pretty big spot but one night it was like the size of a coke can....4 days and its the size of an outside trash can...Just a dark wet spot

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Ok finally some real evidence of the leak!! It looks like its coming from the speedometer connector (I assume, its on the driver side of the trans). So what do I need to get to fix this? Im assuming it just a sealing ring but I would have no clue what to ask for at Advanced Auto...Thanks

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Iirc there is an outside o-ring and an inside seal. I picked mine up from a local trans shop for free. Its literally a five minute install. Inspect the speedo gear shaft for a groove wear mark and replace it if it is too bad.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Ok so i did it today!! I took the cable and what was left of the o ring....They didnt have a specific o ring so they just gave me a thick one that fit inside the speedometer cable. I installed it and first of all the speedo doesnt jump anymore so yay! But then i noticed it was still leaking and for good reason....The cable was moving where it went into the screw on connector so it tightened it up real good to make sure it didnt wiggle and sealed good...Now to wait...I wiped it all down and just hope its good...And since I had the cluster out I replaced some bulbs and now need for it to get dark so I can see if some dash lights are working

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

UGH its still leaking!!!!!! It seems more it might be coming from the gear connected possibly and it seems to also be running down the hole plate its connected to so maybe the gasket that connects where you see the blue???? This is pissing me off but i dont see red on the screw on connection much more right where the gear connects in ugh!!! What else do I need? Do I need to take this into someone? If so how much do you think it would cost to have it fixed?

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

theres two rings inside the speedo gear housing, its probably the inner seal that the gear pushes into, first make sure the gears pushed all the way down and if it is and its still leaking id replace the housing it self.. its only ten bucks or so.

Re: Bars Leak Transmission Stop Leak?

Ok so when you say gear housing are you just talking about the small piece the cable connects to on the inside...it seems to just wiggle when i move the screw piece which is where i see a little of the transmission fluid....SOrry Im a little new to this all....
