Honestly still not sure, Prolly leave it stock for now.. Considering its a 2wd I might just end up going for a lowish rider, then later on maybe get a 4x4.

Re: The Scary Truck

So what did you use for a dash install kit for the radio in your truck? I'm assuming the 1982-2005 kit works?

I actually didn't even use a kit, It fits so snug in the dash it doesn't move, I did attached a bar for support in the back.

Re: The Scary Truck

Kind of a lazy weekend, painted my bumper and got it 1/2 way bolted on, thats just about it. Looks good, Took the head rack off tonight though. I didn't like it with the bumper, plus I don't think I'm going to use it lol. Think I made up my mind and next pay check check get some stuff to lower the truck. Also keeping an eye on craigslist for wheels, or just 4 tires for my rallies, It really bothers me that one of the rims is shallower than the others. But the matching rim has a leaking tire.

Re: The Scary Truck

A little update:

Making some speaker mounts for the back corners of the cab, nothing fancy but they'll work. I'll post pics when I'm done.

Also should be getting two new (used) tires for my rear. 265/??/R15. Not going to complain about sizes though, they're free. Guess it pays off to have a friend work at Goodyear

Running out of things that I can do for little/no money... I'm not allowed to buy anything since Christmas is coming up soon. Any suggestions?

I'll try and make a new video today.

Also swung by O'rielly on my way home from school, cheaper than I though it would be, only $40 bucks I may need to get bolts though, hopefully the stock bolts come out with little to no problems More to come!

Re: The Scary Truck

You'll like the drop shackles. I don't remember the process I went through to get them on but I put the truck on jack-stands so I could adjust the axle with the jack. I was looking at some of the pictures of your truck and I knew something looked different I just couldn't tell what. I finally realized this, you've got a 81-87 front bumper.

Also saw your post about doing a 5/5 drop. Not sure you want to do that. The back will be higher than the front. Would need to do a 5/7 for levelness. I think that might be too low for you. If you wanted you could get a lowering hangar for the rear (since you got the shackles) and that'd give you a 4ish drop in the back. Could get 3" front spindles or 2.5" spindles to get the front level. Just a thought. What are your other plans for the truck?

Yeah, really want to replace that bumper, PO did it, not a fan. And I agree with 5" being a little too much, I think for right now I'm going to put the shackles on and leave it there. Future plans are Satin Black Paint, Fix some of the rust, billet grille, fancy new tail lights, toolbox in bed, finish blacking out interior, and anything that comes along the way.

Hmm.....our trucks will look like twins finished. I picked up a set of rallies I'm painting black. Plan on toolbox when I get the bed rhinolined. All I have left in the interior is to get a rubber floor mat and my seat re-upholstered black. Only difference is going to be the grill

Re: The Scary Truck

Hey Zirk.

I'm outta town right now but these are some of the pics that I have stored on my computer. You will probably have to notch your bed supports. Don't worry it shouldn't hurt the integrity of the bed. I was able to get around this because my truck has the HD rear suspension which comes with 56" leaf springs. You probably have the standard 52". 52" means you'll have to cut to make room. My 56" gave me enough room so I didn't have to cut anything.

Here are some pics. I don't have any real good ones of the shackles but you can tell if you have the longer springs by eyeballing to see how close your spring mounts are to the bumper brackets. You can tell in the pics there isn't much room between the bumper brackets and the spring mounts on mine.

Hope this helps,
Michael

Re: The Scary Truck

Little side I project I've had for about 2 years, Yamaha Blaster 200 bored .80 Putting new gaskets on this weekend! This will be the second time tearing it down all the way, hopefully this time takes just a few hours and not two weeks

Hopefully I can work on lowering my truck Christmas break, might have to go to my uncles for some more room inside, we've been spending every weekend stocking up on firewood..

Re: The Scary Truck

Welp ran to town today to pickup some parts that I ordered from O'rielly's, they sent them back because we didn't pick them up within a week. So we ordered them again, should be here tomorrow..

But on a positive note, I finally convinced my dad to let me try and get a 350 that has been in our barn since the mid 90's running.. Should be fun. He said when he bought it the only thing wrong was the starter bolts were stripped. Time to start saving money again I might just play around with it a little and see how it goes, probably will just stock pile some cash so I can send it to a shop.. Things are finally starting to heat up

Re: The Scary Truck

Its been a few weeks, got my drop shackles installed, notched the bed support rail in the way half way on one side so that way there would still be some support, but the shackles still hit it. So looks like we'll have to cut the whole thing. But of course the cutting torch ran out of oxygen... Might try and use a sawz-all..

Here's some pics, i measured and the truck only sits about an inch or so lower than stock on the passenger side because the shackles can't move and on the driver side sits a good 1.5 inches higher than stock.. Also installing some stuff I got for christmas

That Rake!

Re: The Scary Truck

Coming along nicely on the truck Zirk! Out of curiosity what kind of shape are those stock tailight covers in? and what did you do with them? I wouldnt mind having some in nicer shape then mine and well as some trim but i don`t want to the spend the money on new ones. id rather get used ones for a decent price.
