I'm going to try the ECE mounts for now since I already have them. I'll mock it up on the bare frame and see how much they might need to be modified. I'm thinking I could use some of the other aftermarket LS plates and the ECE stands if I decide the motor needs to be moved back. Problem is that I would like to leave the AC in the stock location. I am interested in your old worn out intake!!!!!!!! Let me know if you decide to part with the greasy old thing! John

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Thanks for the bracket link.
I just ordered the CTS v oil pan kit and the DT headers! Have you decided on a price? Do you know if there are any other changes that need to be made for the intake swap. It should just be a bolt on and tune......right?

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Okay I received this back from Ididit Columns. There is nothing for the newer six speeds evidently but this is what he said about the four speed autos. I know this doesn't pertain to your application but thought I would share.
"we do make retro columns for the 60 thru 66 chevy truck and a retro column for 1967 thru 72 , we do offer them in a retro column shifter version, however we do not have the cable kits to make them work , lokar does offer a cable kit for the 4l80 to work with a 2" or a 2 1/4 " gm original or a gm style aftermarket column, the footnote says for short selector shaft version of the 4l80 trans, the 6l90 is too new for any info, hope this helps" |

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
As far as I know, it's a pretty straight swap. I would do some searching on LS1 Tech to find out for sure. PM sent.

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Got motor stripped down and set in. Test fit Doug Thorley headers.
Clearances are excellent! Only problem is plug wires all touch on passenger side. Frame trimmed to clear power steering res. and air conditioner.

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Gonna have to do some fabrication to make trans mount work.
Motor needs to move back about 2 inches. If I do that, I can drill trans mount holes through the main cross member and do away with the original tab. Should be a stronger mount anyway. I am thinking about getting the DD mounts and cutting up the ECE mounting plates, then the welding the DD mount in order to get the difference I need. Any thoughts? I have to get some 6 inch drop springs bought so I can check driveline angle before I do anything else. Good news is that I may not have to change oil pan. Clearance looks really good! Could be because this is out of a 2wd and the pan is shorter?

This is my latest reason for the delay.

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
A few extra pics I took. The first one is hard to see, but it shows how low the oil pan is compared to the crossmember.
I think if I can move motor back 1.5 to 2 inches, then I can use the stock fan. I put the radiator mount on and I think I have enough clearance...

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Great progress! You'll need to get some MSD spark plug wires for those headers (I have the part number in my burb thread). If you slide the motor back, what motor mounts are you going to use?
EDIT: just saw the comment about the DD mounts, I think that will be a good way to go. Also, your pan clearance looks good..

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Thanks Rob. I thought you had different plug wires, but I hadn't gone back to check yet.
I may still swap out the pan just to gain a little extra clearance. Probably won't matter cause the trans pan has about has about the same clearance.....maybe I should just save the caddy pan for another day! Thanks for the driveshaft! We'll get it figured out. I ordered some drop springs and spindles for this chassis today. Guess I'll have to put the CPP suspension parts on soon. My nephew suggested just getting this frame set up, painted, etc, and putting the white cab and bed on this frame. Something to ponder! John

Re: Early X-mas! 6.0 L96+6L90
Progress looks great! Just a note on your rear trans mount. If you move to the top of the main square tube crossmember you may have to do some triming in the trans tunnel. I raised mine too high and it hit the cab making all kinds of racket. If you have a high hump you should be fine.
